Sorry, I promised my wife I would take her to Whataburger that evening.

    GlenDUH Mon, 02/13/2012 - 5:33pm

    Haah, that's GREAT, dude!

    rjm Mon, 02/13/2012 - 3:50pm

there is nothing "brilliant" about George Clooney, Sidney Poitier, Maya Angelou, and Julie Andrews

    Ouch Mon, 02/13/2012 - 4:19pm

Harsh. Perhaps the Brilliant refers to someone who is willing to donate their time to assist in gathering funds to help others. That may not fit the definition of Brilliant but seems to be far better than writing insults about someone who is taking action.

    Mature, Educated & Reasonable Tue, 02/14/2012 - 1:28pm

These Hollywood types like Clooney, Gere and others, spend a lot of time at "Free Microphones" as at the Oscar Award shows, telling the audience that we should follow them and clean up Asia, or Africa, or . . . Now these types want us to PAY THEM to listen to the same propaganda that caused me to stop watching the Oscar and other award shows? Ridiculous!

Why don't Clooney, Gere, Angelou and the others all do one fantastic movie, and donate all their salaries to cleaning up the corrupt governments overseas. This will help the US economy as government aid to those places can stop.

I am sure I will be called names for my stance, by those who are nto able to respond intelligently.

    Don Tue, 02/14/2012 - 6:39pm

You're so Brilliant, Mature, Educated & Reasonable. Did I say Brilliant? Let me put on my sunglasses.

    choppah Mon, 02/13/2012 - 4:25pm

Don't believe everything Fox News tells you to believe.

    GlenDUH Mon, 02/13/2012 - 5:39pm

Fox News' hard news is right on.
And their ratingas are through the roof.

    golfdawg11 Mon, 02/13/2012 - 8:20pm

A lot of people go see the "Transformers" movies too. They make a lot of money. They are also crap. The same goes for Fox News, fiction that a lot of people buy into. As PT Barnum says, "A sucker is born every minute", and nowadays, they all watch Fox News.

    Sven Tambourine Wed, 02/15/2012 - 11:03am

Yes, Fox has high ratings, but so what? Professional wrestling is fake, but it is far more popular than real wrestling. Britney Spears sold far more records than Jimi Hendrix, but is she a better musician? What's your point again?

    better sence Mon, 02/13/2012 - 7:13pm

Oh brother, who do you think thou art ?

    cabbagerollsandcoffee Mon, 02/13/2012 - 3:57pm

Mr. Clooney, shut up and act.

    tljohnson0331 Mon, 02/13/2012 - 8:32pm

That goes for the majority of Hollywood.

    GOODLUCK Mon, 02/13/2012 - 3:58pm

    He is running for President

    Signal2Noise Mon, 02/13/2012 - 4:00pm

RJM, clearly you have never heard Poitier and Andrews speak. Their lectures were amazing. Angelou's was decent, though overly poetic. I suggest you listen before you hate. Through access that fame, and money, can get you, you'd be surprised at how knowledgeable, insightful and wonderfully frank they can be.

    rjm Mon, 02/13/2012 - 5:41pm

These people are ACTORS or wannabe actors....they read other peoples words. Poitier is a reverse racist who has been trading on his false image for decades. Angelou is a pompous gas bag, and Andrews doesn't know how to spell Exit.
I can't believe Clooney got suckered into this, but I'm sure someone will write him a great presentation targeted to this superficial audience.

    Sam Tue, 02/14/2012 - 11:22am

....speaking of pompous airbags, full of pride and false righteousness.....

    Druscilla Tue, 02/14/2012 - 2:18pm

    No kidding! Seriously pompous airbag.

    aglinz03 Mon, 02/13/2012 - 4:02pm

I would love to 'see' him. But the thought of actually listening towhat he has to say is like relishing the sound of fingernails across a chalkboard. Nice to look at, until he opens his mouth.

    Mojitos4All Mon, 02/13/2012 - 4:03pm

RJM, true, most of those people are interesting, pretty, etc. but you are incorrect, Maya Angelou is a brilliant writer.

    golfdawg11 Mon, 02/13/2012 - 4:04pm

I'm not sure there's anything brilliant about George Clooney, but he's very entertaining. But Sidney Poitier, Maya Angelou, and Julie Andrews?? RJM, your idea of brilliant apparently runs more to Larry the Cable Guy. Don't worry, you don't have to go.

    Girl_trainer Mon, 02/13/2012 - 8:10pm

SPOT ON! LOL. @RJM, 'tis better to let people just think you are ignorant than to open your mouth and prove them right.

    MikeTx60 Mon, 02/13/2012 - 4:10pm

I've attended the Sidney Poitier, Maya Angelou and Al Pacino lectures, they were all excellent.

    Anon E. Moose Mon, 02/13/2012 - 4:26pm

What 'brilliant' Einstein came up with the 'brilliant' idea of charging so much for an evening that would merely be a celebrity spouting politics and not 'brilliant?'

    Peter123456 Mon, 02/13/2012 - 4:32pm

Clooney may be very good at what he does, but I'm guessing this 'lecture' will be another load of Hollywood hypocrisy. When someone gets paid $15 million for a movie, I have no problem with that. But when someone gets $15 million for a movie while a gaffer might be lucky to get $25k, and then they talk about fairness, well...

    golfdawg11 Mon, 02/13/2012 - 5:20pm

Why is when the Hollywood star is Republican (Ronald Reagan, Ahnuld), they are brilliant, but when a Dem, they are full of hypocrisy? No need to answer, it's a rhetorical question. At least Clooney's movies bring in tons of money, he actually works (as opposed to some hedge fund trader moving paper), and he *does* create jobs when he makes a movie. BTW, how do you know how much anyone in Hollywood makes?

    Peter123456 Mon, 02/13/2012 - 6:01pm

Do conservative stars run around talking about "fairness" all the time as they collected 500 times the pay of other people working on their projects? No.
    .
I have no problem with Clooney and the like making the money they make, I just get sick of them talking about how everything needs to be fair when hundreds of people working on their films get a fraction of their pay. Is there anything that stops Clooney, Penn or the like from saying negotiating a contract where all the workers on the film, including them, are paid the same? No, but do they do it; of course not. HYPOCRISY!!!

    golfdawg11 Mon, 02/13/2012 - 8:18pm

Well, that would be socialism, and, based on your remarks, you're certainly not for that. Or do you want everyone, in *every* industry, to share and share alike? Or just rich Democrats in Hollywood? Again, Clooney puts butts in the seats. Which means his work actually makes money. Which hires people. Which stimulates the economy. AND, he produces films and helps other peoples' films get financed. I believe, based on what I read, he is a "job creator". He doesn't ship jobs overseas and close companies. I think his actions represent a good guide for what a *real* job creator would do.

    Peter123456 Wed, 02/15/2012 - 9:29am

You need to do yourself a favor and do two things. 1. Take a reading comprehension course. 2. Learn the definition of hypocrisy.

    golfdawg11 Wed, 02/15/2012 - 12:34pm

I certainly don't need your instructions on what I "need" to do. I actually have written for a living, so I am WAY ahead of you as far as reading comprehension. As far as hypocrisy, go look in a mirror.

    MAL Mon, 02/13/2012 - 5:14pm

who cares what he has to say I'm going just to be in the same room with HOTNESS :)

    WhoosyaDaddy! Mon, 02/13/2012 - 5:18pm

Yep, he's got Presidential ambitions, especially being so brilliant as he is. I think he would make excellent Presidential material. Look at that suit and that hair! And after working in Hollywood so long he most definitely is good at being led around by the nose.

    GlenDUH Mon, 02/13/2012 - 5:45pm

I loved this man with the rest of the females of the world, until he began using his celebrity to make PERSONAL attacks on President George Bush.
Personal attacks are not cool, IMO.
I'll show as much respect for the office of the POTUS as these low-down liberals did for President Bush.
George Clooney would make an awful president, unless, like Clinton, he had a Repub House and Senate.

    golfdawg11 Mon, 02/13/2012 - 8:23pm

Of course, there are ZERO personal attacks against Obama these days. Nada. I don't know if he has any Presidential aspirations, and haven't read anything to that effect. But if he's an awful President, he'll have a LONG way to go to beat Dubya.

    GlenDUH Tue, 02/14/2012 - 1:58pm

You don't get out much, do you, dawg.
Personal Attacks aren't allowed against Owebama.
Also, he isn't fit to wipe President Bush's feet.
This Constitution-shredding Kenyan is outta here in November so you enjoy what little time is left, poor deluded liberal.

    golfdawg11 Tue, 02/14/2012 - 2:44pm

Much to your dismay, there is very little chance that anyone in the motely cure called the GOP Presidential field will beat him. Considering the economy, that's pretty surprising. But that's just how weak the candidates on the right are. More concerned with birth control than actually creating jobs for the economy. I am ecstatic you will be miserable with four more years of Obama, you freaking birther.

    Britt Mon, 02/13/2012 - 8:14pm

In case anyone wants to do research on the topic of Clooney's talk, please look up information on "Darfur" (vs. "Dafur" as written above).

    AnoN2012 Tue, 02/14/2012 - 11:37am

I felt my brain cells slowly dying as I read these ridiculous comments

    JayJay Tue, 02/14/2012 - 11:39am

"I'm illiterate so I get my "news" and political advice from TV comedians. And I voted for Obama."

I like Clooney in films. Otherwise, I refuse to sit and be lectured to by Hollywood Lefties.

    Bill in Houston Tue, 02/14/2012 - 12:08pm

If I wanted to hear a windbag I'd listen to Bono.

    Texans_00 Tue, 02/14/2012 - 12:14pm

Hey Looney, didn't you promise to leave America if George Bush was re-elected? So why do they have to a D-Bag Liar, speaking at a lecture series called Brilliant...shouldn't your appearance be tied to dumba-- worthless punk series

    DogLipps Tue, 02/14/2012 - 12:22pm

Think I will leave this for the pretty people from River Oaks. They really won't be interested in what he has to say. They are just hoping to get their picture in the paper with George Clooney, so they can show everybody they are somebody.

    Anonymous CHAD Tue, 02/14/2012 - 12:28pm

I'm not sure why Hollywood folks think we, John Q Public make a habit of looking toward them for guidance or any sort of influence. I'm also not sure why it is that they choose to pursue issues outside of our nation's property line and figure we'll all be happy to throw money at these undertakings.

Considering the source, I DO know that I'm not inclined to be lectured to by them and neither will I part with my money for these overseas concerns. Darfur is a product of the corruption present on the entire filthy continent of Africa. We've learned over many lifetimes, centuries and hundreds of attempts at European colonization that no amount of money, time, or samaritan effort will ever re-direct their future. So save your money, feed your kids and be thankful for the world YOU live in.

    golfdawg11 Tue, 02/14/2012 - 2:50pm

And there's that "compassionate conservatism" we all love and expect from the right. Africa is a "entire filthy continent"? Glad you have a good world view. BTW, you looked towards Ronald Reagan for your views, and he wasn't even a *good* actor, just a B-movie contract guy. So looks like you took your views from your so-called legend, when the rest of us know he's the one that started deficit spending and took the GOP down that road. Also, attendance isn't mandatory at this event. You actually have to *pay* for it. So you don't have to attend. Much like the right operates these days though, if they don't want to do it (birth control, abortion, women's health care, etc.), they want to make sure *no one* gets to. Do what you want, but MYOFB.

    Anonymous CHAD Tue, 02/14/2012 - 4:34pm

    Golfdawg,

    1) How in the world did you come up with "Ronald Reagan," "conservative right," "acting," "GOP," "birth control," abortion," and "women's health care" from my comment?

    2) "Paying to attend" is a donation which supports that cause

    3) I lived and worked all over that "filthy continent" for twenty years. Nothing will "save" the people of Darfur or any other part of it and bring them to a standard of living which is perceived as reasonable by western cultures.

So in summary, you have no earthly idea of what you are ranting about and should MYOFB!

    Bill in Houston Tue, 02/14/2012 - 5:51pm

Wow, you're just an angry, bitter little man, aren't you?

    Eric Wed, 02/15/2012 - 3:03am

Hey, George, I know you're "brilliant" and all that, but here's a news flash for you. Darfur is a dung heap. Darfur has always been a dung heap. Darfur will always be a dung heap and no amount of money you throw at it to make yourself feel noble and self righteous will ever change that. Oh, and the same goes for Haiti, Sean!

    Woodlands Dad Wed, 02/15/2012 - 6:17am

There is nothing he has to say that I want to listen to. In addition, I do not need to funnel my charity dollars through him. The ONLY thing that contributed to his "success" were his good looks and that is nothing to be proud of.

    fatman of Clearl;ake Wed, 02/15/2012 - 6:42am

what's scary is people actually listen...

    Eddie Moon Wed, 02/15/2012 - 8:46am

If movie stars are so liberal, why do movie tickets cost so much? Bleeding hearts like Clooney speak to the elite who can afford to shower them with dollars. True, the world needs a lot of help however so do we here in the USA. $2,500 a plate? Give me a break!

    GardenGal Wed, 02/15/2012 - 9:46am

Last year Clooney left Bill Maher speechless on his own show. Maher said that conservatives have no compassion for people who aren't like them and Clooney said, that's not true...many of the people who have helped with Darfur are conservatives; they are very interested in helping. I think Clooney is a fair person and it is good of him to want to help people who are less fortunate.

    racauth2.0 Wed, 02/15/2012 - 10:26am

george cloony, abusing our 1st amendment rights.

    Kittyg Wed, 02/15/2012 - 10:36am

    Who cares? I certainly don't!

    golfdawg11 Wed, 02/15/2012 - 12:33pm

All I read is a bunch of people complaining and whining about someone who actually walks the walk and does something to help society! You've insulted him in every fashion possible, and all the guy does is seeking to help others that are less fortunate than himself. He has the money and influence to do so. Isn't that what it's *supposed* to be about? I suppose most of you are self-proclaimed Christians too. Isn't that one of the main themes in the Bible? Instead you criticize him for doing some good for others. You people sicken me. Here's the old phrase that most of you would do well to live by: lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way. And none of you are doing anything to help, you just are selfish and want to criticize others. So get the hell out of the way! BTW, the subject of his talk is "Hollywood Humanitarianism: To Whom Much is Given, Much is Expected". Sounds like something Joel Osteen would talk about at Lakewood Church. Sounds pretty selfless to me. The rest of you are worse than heartless, or even non-caring. You criticize someone who gives of their time and money to others. That's about as bad as you can get.

    Obama bin Biden Thu, 02/16/2012 - 9:53am

This would be a laugh riot. If I'm able to ask him a few questions, I'm there.
