Rutherford Cravens, Joe Kirkendall, Kregg Dailey, Joel Sandel, Guy Roberts, and Celeste Roberts in The Coast of Utopia
Main Street Theater is extending its Houston premiere of Tom Stoppard’s Tony-winning trilogy The Coast of Utopia — including the return of Voyage (Part 1), which ended its initial run Sunday.
Here’s how it works. As previously announced, Shipwreck (Part 2) begins performances Thursday and plays through Feb. 18; Salvage (Part 3) begins performances Feb. 23, and the two continue in alternating repertory through March 11.
In MST’s newly announced extension, Voyage will return the next week, so that the three parts can play on successive evenings March 15-17, culminating in “marathon day” on March 18, with Voyage at 11 a.m., Shipwreck at 3 p.m., Salvage at 8 p.m.
So, Stoppard fans, there will be an opportunity to see the entire trilogy in a single day.
The Coast of Utopia depicts a group of influential writers, philosophers and other intellectuals as they struggle to effect social change in mid-19th century Russia, painstakingly laying the groundwork for eventual revolution.
