The art we'll lose if the U.S Postal Service closes

Jeff F. Wheeler, Bryan Wheeler, James Porter and Ryan Geiger: Oracle Mechanic. Photo: Douglas Britt/29-95A Ggallery group show of work by four artists in three cities — brothers Jeff F. Wheeler and Bryan Wheeler of Lubbock, Ryan Geiger of Houston and James Porter of Wichita, Kan. — presents a type of collaboration that might not survive — at least in its analog form — if the U.S. Postal Service doesn’t.

Over the past year they’ve snail mailed works-in-progress to each other and added their own touches before forwarding. The 45 works on view here follow familiar neo-Dada and Pop conventions to wildly uneven effect, which is to be expected, but there are some real gems here, such as Oracle Mechanica, in which one of Geiger’s trademark birds is reconfigured for deployment in the military-industrial industrial complex.

The fact that not all the artists worked on all the mixed-media drawings enhances the show’s value as a study in artistic process; even the less successful pieces are enjoyable to unpack.

Redundant Recursions contiunes through Sept. 26 at Ggallery.

Oh, so they can't send it by DHL, FedEx, or UPS?

Art can be presented in many forms and avenues, and I find it incredibly hard to believe an artist can find no other venue than the Post Office? Incredibly stupid.

Everyone seems to forget that the Postal Service is required by federal law. It will survive in some form or another unless the Constitution is amended. It should have been reorganized into a non-union shop emulating a suitable business 40 years ago and we would not be having this discussion now.

Many of the post office buildings themselvs house art. Check out the silver eagle near the DTPO circ 1945.

The Post Office truly was ruined by the unions. Trust me, you don't want a public company that can go out of business to be carrying the public mail.

Fed-Ex will charge you $5.00 for the same letter sent for the price of a stamp today.

Then Fed-Ex files Ch. 11 and all your mail goes to the trash. Too bad, so sad.

That would be completely fine. As it is now all I get in the mail are bills and unsolicited junk mail.
