Block 21's tented "patio".
Block 21 is a creation of the same brain trust that brought us The Flat, a fact made obvious by the aesthetic similarity between the bars: both manage to be chic and elegant (in Block 21’s case, this means an angular, Persian touch) without affecting stuffiness or pretension, going on to bring an entirely unique vibe to their respective neighborhoods. Block 21 gives a shot of ice water to the Washington corridor, ultimately succeeding where The Social, Chaise Lounge and Pearl Bar have not. The space itself is marked by efficiency, with a long, classy wooden bar tucked to one side and the expansive lounge on the other, leaving just enough space between the two for dancing. A back lounge – centered around a premium-only bar – offers a respite from the rattle and hum of the main room, helping to solidify Block 21 as one of the few Washington hot spots to display an actual personality.
