Specials on drinks like these can be had at happy hour.: Marc Brubaker
It’s happy hour, and Beaver’s may be Houston’s most ideal spot. Served only at the bar or on the much-praised patio, the extensive set of discounts is certain to make anyone’s day a bit more cheery.
This happy hour showcases what Beaver’s does best. The entire menu of creative cocktails is discounted by two bucks. That includes seasonal offerings such as the Ginger Buffalo, Peruvian Llama and the boozy Pit’s-Burg, as well as house favorites such as the heavyweight Beaver Mary and the spicy Forecast (habanero-infused vodka, muddled cucumber, Kaffir lime syrup and lemon).
Then there’s the food — delicious offerings all available for a fiver. These aren’t small dishes, either. The Little Beaver Pie is more than worth it, mouth-watering beef, pico and smoky queso served in a bag of Frito’s (as God intended). There are fried okra and green beans for snacking, wings, Sloppy Sandy’s and more.
Wash it all down with the house punch: a rotating concoction that’s boozy and sweet, and only $5 ($20 for a carafe that serves four to five people).
There are other specials as well: red or white house wines are $4, draft beers are discounted a dollar and pitchers are docked as well. Buckets of Texas beers — from Saint Arnold’s, Real Ale and Shiner — are $20 ($10 if those tins are full of Lone Star).
