Mongoose Vs Cobra will host a birthday party of Buffalo Bayou Brewing -- the brewery is celebrating its first year -- beginning at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30. In its newsletter, the bar says:

“We will be tapping all manner of unusual BuffBrews that we have stashed in our cellar for just such an occasion. If you remember Baboon versus Flamingo Midnight Ale, you know that when the boys and girls at Buffalo Bayou get weird, good things happen.”

Latin Bites Cafe will be serving complimentary pisco sour flights Saturday to commemorate Pisco Sour Day, which is celebrated in Peru where the cocktail originated. The drink trio will include a traditional pisco sour, as well chicha morada and passion fruit versions.

Steak house opens lounge
Tradicao Brazilian Steakhouse in southwest Houston recently opened Porto, a lounge offering happy-hour specials, a small-bite menu and live Bossa Nova music. Happy hour is 5-7 p.m. Monday-Friday and features $4.50-$6 caipirinhas and specialty martinis. Porto is open daily after 5 p.m.
