9-9-9. The Mark of ... genius?: File6-6-6. The number of the beast. In horror film legacy, it's short for "holy shit, this dude's going to kill us all," while in a religious context it's a good ploy to scare small children into submission. Just a numeral repeated thrice is enough to signal the apocalypse and apparently warrant its own phobia (hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia.) But numeric significance should be placed on another sequence: 9-9-9. 09/09/09 to be exact. There are a ton of events, specials, releases and goodies that just happen to fall on that day.
• The Beatles: Rock Band
I've blogged ad nauseum about the release of The Beatles: Rock Band, so I won't bore you with the details I know you've heard already. Just sayin it's there, it'll be available and have fun. Also, Best Buys in Houston will have lots of in-store events from noon to 3 p.m. in case you want to see a bunch of gamers dressed in their old band uniforms.
• Happy Birthday Sega Dreamcast
Ahhh memories ...: File
It was "born" (in America, at least) on 9/09/99. It didn't last long, but the Sega Dreamcast made its mark and helped open the doorway to a console business that now rakes in millions. Lots of folks are celebrating and reminiscing, like Jeremy Parish, writer at 1Up.com, who wrote a Dreamcast memorial blog post. Too bad Sega isn't hip to the hype.
• Movie 9 comes out and Steampunk comes aboveground
Academy Award-nominated writer-director Shane Acker's film about a post-apocalyptic world where the future of civilization depends on a scientist's steampunk (or stitchpunk) creation. We gave away reserved tickets to a special screening on 09/08/09, but the movie's official release date is, quite naturally, 09/09/09.
You can get a few free movie items for download (Xbox Live picture pack and Dashboard Theme) through Xbox Live here and here.
Didn't win tickets in the movie contest? See it in theaters.
Looks better than the "Shrimp-flavored" packaged variety: File• Pei Wei meal exchange for Ramen
One cheap dish deserves another. Gamers are notorious consumers of Monster energy drinks and Ramen noodles. For one day only, bring in a package of that cheap store-bought ramen soup you eat and Pei Wei will give you a 50 percent discount on its newest dish, Japanese Chili Beef Ramen. I have no idea how it tastes, but it's better than the sodium-filled package you're bringing in. So there.
• Beatles remastered
For those that aren't into Rock Band (hard to believe, but they exist) and don't care about The Beatles: Rock Band release, the remastered release of the entire Beatles catalog might trip your trigger. You'll get the original U.K. artwork, brief documentaries about the making of the albums and liner notes and photos.
• A Day without Cats on the Internet
I am not a cat lady. As much as I can appreciate the fact that kittens are cute, in my mind a cat is an acceptable pet only if you're senile and don't remember what a dog looks like. Tell the truth - that LOLCatz craze wasn't really that funny, was it? The people at Urlesque.com share my confoundedness over the internet cat love and have called for a web-wide ban on cat-related coverage called simply A Day Without Cats.
I completely agree (hell I think it should be a month) and have signed a petition to show my support of the cause.
Here's the press conference:
So we know what some people are going to be doing today. Will expect a full report on how interactive Paul is. LOL
I haven't even opened the box. I swear.
Since God kills a kitten every time you masturbate, why couldn't we all just rub one out and make no cats day permanent?
National "Rub Out an Internet Kitten" Day. Benefiting PETA.
I think we should rub out a kitten every day this week!! Is anyone in with me? Too damn many cats out there. Not that I am opposed to a good looking pussy....................LOL
In the History channel's Life after people, cats are the ones that survive (way after dogs) ... yeah I ruined the ending but you weren't going to watch it anyways. I still love dogs more.
