New zombie board game features Houston landmarks

Choose your route carefully.: Barry BehannonChoose your route carefully.: Barry BehannonDid you play Dungeons & Dragons? Picture it with a zombie theme and Houston landmarks.

Zombie Ground Zero is a tabletop Role Playing Game that puts you in the shoes of a zombie attack survivor attempting to escape Houston ('cause the zombie apocalypse is the only valid excuse to leave our fair city).

The concept was created by a group of friends back in June as they were checking out the local Ikea. What's the one place everyone goes when the undead start their attack? The mall. But Ikea is pretty close and those SKÄRPT knives look like they can efficiently chop off a head.

The game's creators are testing Zombie Ground Zero with a dress rehearsal of sorts on Nov. 19. Come as a zombie, hang out at the official safe house (Movies! The Store), eat burgers (both veggie and moo), enjoy refreshing beverages and fight for survival as our beloved Houston is ravaged by the ills of zombie mayhem.

You'll be in on the ground floor (Houston is THE FIRST location - suck it, Dallas) of a game that the creators hope to carry on in other cities.

    Playtest for Zombie Ground Zero
    Thursday, Nov. 19, 5 p.m. - 10 p.m.

Just think about it for a minute. Houston has the Texas medical center - the largest concentration of bio-medical research facilities in the world - doing Lord knows what kind of genetic experiments. We have Rice University, a hotbed of nanotechnolegy research. There's no telling what type of otherworldly pathogens NASA could be introducing into our atmosphere at this very moment. And of course there's the countless number of petro-chemical plants that line the Houston ship channel, and dot the surrounding area. If there is a Zombie apocalypse, it's starting right here in H-town.
