I swear I am not making this up. It seems that TV's Judge Mathis has decided it is not enough to annoy us from the TV screen, rather he wants in on our gaming action, too. He's working on a new, 'GTA-esque' video game called Mathis "Detroit" Street Judge.
From Yahoo! Games:
"Players will step into the role of convicted felon La-Ron Washington, who’s been released from prison early due to overcrowding but has two strikes hanging over his head. La-Ron is given one last chance; he must stay out of trouble, perform community service and avoid negative street influences and temptations. One more strike and La-Ron gets a life sentence from Judge Mathis."
Aside from the obvious bad feelings I get from this concept (La-Ron? Really? Are you sure?), our esteemed TV judge goes on to say:
"When you go to prison, you gain credibility when you come back on the streets. On the other hand, when you go to prison you can also be raped. So take your chances. We may see young people who make the wrong choice and go to prison and are assaulted repeatedly (in this game)."
Wait ... wha? Did he just say that gamers will be raped in this game? Repeatedly?
And how do you play the game and win? Do you just log in and do nothing while various street professionals try to sell you a dime bag and the services of a $20 hooker? Maybe get extra lifelines for passing out those Watchtower pamphlets door-to-door? I'm not sure I understand the lesson here.
Maybe next we could have a Wii game for young people who glamorize drug addicts. Instead of a Wii controller, you get a hookah hooked up to a virtual bong. Take a hit and you lose your part-time gig at Donutworld. Take another hit and your mom kicks you out of the basement. You know you've lost the game when you get the munchies, but the fridge is empty.
That'll teach 'em.
La-Ron?!?
