Your Weekly Fix: Rock Band “Rock Off” Contest, a Houston Comic-con?

    Games

    • Lots of shovelware this week, with maybe the exception of “La Mulana” for the Wii, and the new MX Vs. ATV game “Reflex” out for everything except the Wii. James Cameron’s “Avatar” gets its video game adaptation for every single current-gen console. As we all know, movies don’t translate well into games, and this one doesn’t look like its going to break the mold.

    • On another gaming note, the Alamo Drafthouse on Mason Road is going to be holding a Rock Band “Rock Off” Contest. December 21-23rd will be the qualifiers, solo and band modes, and prizes for the top two. There will be extra points awarded for costumes and moves, so expectations for tiger striped spandex and power slides are very high. You can check out the complete rules (and in order to make it efficient, there are quite a bit of specifics), times, etc, at http://www.drafthouse.com/mason/shows.php?id=498.

    Comics
    • This week, Zero Day comes one day late because of Thanksgiving, so head to the comic shop on Thursday.

    • DC expands the “Blackest Night” tie-ins with “Blackest Night: Wonder Woman #1” and “Blackest Night: The Flash #1”; and a new Justice Society series starts up with “JSA All-Stars #1”

    • The thinning out of the legion of gamma irradiated beings in the Marvel U begins with “Fall of Hulks Alpha”. Iron Man gets a Requiem, Thor has a new writer, and Osborn takes over Asgard in “Siege”.

    • Quiet week every where else, a little too quiet.
On a final note, December 12-13, Houston will be having it’s own Comic-Con. Details coming in the next couple of days!
