Join us Monday, Nov. 9, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. as we host a very special happy hour at the Alabama Theatre, formerly the Bookstop, 2922 South Shepherd.

The free event honors two special organizations, Houston Mod, a local group that is helping to preserve some our city's most historic homes and buildings, and the Cinema Arts Society, another non-profit Houston group that is hosting the 2009 Cinema Arts Festival. The festival opens Nov. 11 and runs through Nov. 15.

What's going on at this happy hour?

• Guests will be able to check out the the Cinema Arts Society's H-Box, a state-of-the-art device that is part art gallery, part cinema. The H-Box is installed in the Alabama Theatre and will be showing video and short films by 10 artists.
• To pay homage to the building's history as a bookstore and a movie theater, we're hosting a book and film DVD swap. Guests are encouraged to bring their gently used books and movies to swap. (A never-viewed Day the Earth Stood Still, anyone?)
• Refreshments will be provided by Saint Arnold and Late Nite Pie.
