29 reasons to attend Summer Fest

    1. We genuinely like Eleanor Tinsley park and think it's a great place for a music festival. Ok, so it doesn't have a whole lot of shade, but neither does Zilker Park, and that doesn't stop anyone from going to ACL Fest.

    3. Did I say "ACL Fest?" Ha, yes, I guess I did. Thing is: Houston could do with an indie music festival. Everyone else has one for years. If you don't go, you're just confirming that we don't deserve one. Don't do that.
    4. Wild Moccasins
    5. Young Mammals
    6. Free Press' Omar Afra is saying there's going to be free water. I don't know what kind of magic that dude has up his sleeve, but it must be serious.
    7. Sideshow Tramps
    8. Los Skarnales

    9. The Tontons
    10. You're agoraphobic and don't like dark clubs. Completely understandable.
    11. Scale the Summit
    12. The Small Sounds
    13. Headliners Of Montreal, What Made Milwaukee Famous, The Sword, Broken Social Scene, Explosions in the Sky and Octopus Project.

    17. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Project Row Houses.
    18. Southern Backtones
    19. The Watermarks
    20. There's a recycling program in place. How many times have you thrown away a water bottle at iFest and cringed because you would have rather recycled it? Who is with me? We need responsible festivals in this city.

    23. A two-day "fancy pants" pass only costs $45, which gets you $20 in food and drink vouchers and cooling stations and whatnot. I mean, really. That's just silly.

    25. Devin the Dude
    26. Elaine Greer
    27. You're a complete newbie to the Houston indie-music scene and want to know what it's all about. This festival was MADE FOR YOU.
    28. The Hates
    29. You love Houston and want to see this nutty little place become a city where cool things happen. This is your opportunity. Don't blow it.

    Noon-10 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. Eleanor Tinsley Park. $10 one-day pass, $16 two-day pass, $45 upgrade two-day pass, $100 VIP two-day pass. See www.freepresssummerfest.com for more details.

    Hella good post, Sara. Seriously.

I am seriously, unironically, so proud of Omar and the Free Press for putting this festival together. That's an awesome line-up, and the price is unbelievably low. In fact, I've paid more for tickets just to see ONE of these acts, never mind dozens of them. It is about time Houston got a decent music festival, and this one's looking even better than I thought it could.

Good work, yall! can't wait to see you there!

will tickets be available @ the gate?

    Lina Fuh Fri, 08/07/2009 - 12:17pm

    Yes!

So excited about Summer Fest... I'll be there both days.

Sara's right. Read and re-read #3. Good point. It's an affordable stellar line-up right in our own back yard.
