ArtStorm compilation release: Twelve haikus for twelve bands

On Saturday, ArtStorm Records releases their “Summer Exposure” compilation with a big crazy show at the Mink. About a million bands are playing, including mine. In the interest of not being a dick and promoting something I’m involved in on the website I work for (it always pisses me off when Matt Drudge hypes his alt-country albums), I assure you that my writing this piece has nothing to do with trying to get people to see my band play and everything to do with my well-documented love of traditional Japanese poetry. Here are previews of all twelve bands performing tomorrow, straight-up haiku-style.

    BOLT
    Hulking bearded men
    Playing hulking bearded songs
    With guitars and beards

    NEWS ON THE MARCH
    Swinging grandpa tunes
    Like indie-pop plus Bob Wills
    The fuckers can sing

    GIANT PRINCESS
    Filthy rock and roll
    If Dylan loved Sonic Youth
    Best band in Houston?

    B L A C K I E
    Fucking breathtaking
Grime that will scrape your skull clean
    All caps, no spaces

    ONE HUNDRED FLOWERS
    Also the name of
A punk band from the 80s
    Shit happens a bunch

    ELAINE GREER
    Cute as a button
Must be sick of reading that
    Oh, also: good songs

    THE BROOD
    Not seen these guys but
    Share name with mean aliens
    From “X-Men,” so rad!

    BUXTON
    You’ll dance and you’ll sweat
And you’ll hang on for dear life
    You will hear Texas

    YOUNG MAMMALS
    On their new album:
    Flaming Lips vs. Eno
    Live: RAWK USA!

    LISTENLISTEN
    Can't describe these guys
    Horns, banjo, drums, hypnosis
    Lost in the woods? Nah.

    ALPACA
    If you trust MySpace,
These guys are from Portland, OR
    I don’t trust MySpace

    THE MATHLETES
    This is a haiku
    It has only seventeen
    Syllables. Kickass.

The Summer Exposure show starts at 4 p.m.Saturday. Admission is $10 and includes a copy of the compilation.
