Way back in 2006 there was a reference in the blogosphere that suggested Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy wouldn't play Houston until things were resolved with Two Gallants here in the city. For a supershort refresher, Two Gallants is the San Francisco duo that was playing Walter's on Washington in Oct. 2006 when a noise complaint led to police presence aaaaaand a taser-filled night of unfun for the band and several fans.
Capitol Records
Charges were filed against Gallants drummer Tyson Vogel, though they were dropped in April 2007. The reason for all this backstory blubbering is two years later the Decemberists have lined up their first Houston date in eons. They'll play House of Blues on Oct. 2.
The A Short Fazed Hovel 2009 tour finds the wordy, folky yet sort of rock-y band performing its album The Hazards of Love in its entirety.
Period garb is welcome, as are personal journals and quill pens. Please leave your tasers at home.
HG Wells' Time Machine, no time for this time, period piece sci-fi-lookin' asses.
I almost don't want to go because of his prior commentary about Houston. I always thought it was unfair that we got such a bad rap based on one incident. If that had happened in Austin, I don't think bands would have stopped going there. Just saying. But I'm a sellout, so I'll probably try to go anyway.
Is he arriving by white horse?
I almost don't want to go because of his prior commentary about Houston as well. I definitely don't want to go because this band sucks shit. Four good songs over five full lengths does not a quality band make.
Sorry, I'm done.
