Elvis tribute is king this week

    Good to be the king

BowiElvis Night: Local icons celebrate global icons a few days early. David Bowie and Elvis Presley were both born Jan. 8, and they get fitting tributes from the Southern Backtones, Craig Kinsey and Chase Hamblin. (Here’s hoping one of them shows up in a rhinestoned pantsuit.) Get there early for peanut butter and banana appetizers. When: 8 p.m. Saturday; Where: Fitzgerald’s, 2706 White Oak; Tickets: $7.

    Friday 1.4
Frenetic After Dark: A Glittered, Gutted and Glorified Cabaret: FrenetiCore ushers in 2013 with a late-night swirl of decadence that includes dance, theater, drag, music and burlesque. The evening’s “spiritual guide, valet and hostess” is the aptly named Miss Understood, who will introduce a bevy of acts, from Dragg Kardashion to the Dem Damn Dames burlesque troupe. A dance party follows the performances. When: 8 p.m. Friday; Where: House of Blues, Bronze Peacock Room, 1204 Caroline; Tickets: $10

Adam & Eve Fashion Show: Clothes seems to be the least important thing at this event, which features performances by local bands American Swindle, Otenki, Shaving Z, Aramite and Downfall Rising. The 18-and-up action also includes cirque acts, pole dancers and dance crews. When: 7 p.m. Friday; Where: House of Blues, 1204 Caroline; Tickets: $10-$15.

    Saturday 1.5
John Hiatt & the Combo: Hiatt has always come across as an old soul, a grizzled sage with a nostalgic stripe for classic cars, road tales and a style of songwriting that is focused, intelligent and human. He is, in this respect, the kind of guy who likely preferred the dapper-yet-dark stylings of Southern soul, from Memphis and Muscle Shoals rather than the more polished Motown. His most recent work is last year’s “Mystic Pinball.” When: 8:30 p.m. Saturday; Where: House of Blues, 1204 Caroline; Tickets: $25-$55.

    Sunday 1.6
    Unfinished Country: New
Video From China: This series of shorts is presented in conjunction with “Perspectives 180 — Unfinished Country: New Video from China” at the Contemporary Arts Museum. Filmmakers include Wang Qingsong, Chen Qiulin and Yang Fudong. When: 5 p.m. Sunday; Where: Asia Society Texas Center, 1370 Southmore; Tickets: Free.
