Fiona Apple arrested in Texas

Fiona Apple has been arrested in our great state, according to Pitchfork:

"The cry "Free Fiona" has taken on new meaning. Cue the "Criminal" jokes, etc. This year's favorite resurgent singer-songwriter, Fiona Apple, has been arrested for possession of hash in Texas, TMZ reports, at a border stop. Apple is currently being held in a local jail. Wow."

TMZ has posted Apple's mugshot. Is that a prison jumpsuit? Or was she refereeing a football game?

The singer, whose last name is Maggart, was arrested Wednesday at a border stop in Sierra Blanca, where a drug-sniffing dog found .01 lbs. of hashish and .01 lbs. of marijuana on her tour bus. Apple “freely admitted that the controlled substances belonged to her,” according to a press release from the sheriff’s office. She was held overnight at the Hudspeth County Jail and released Thursday after posting a $10,000 bond.

Apple’s publicist did not respond to requests for a comment.

Sierra Blanca is the same spot where Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg and actor Armie Hammer were arrested for drug possession.

Apple released “The Idler Wheel ...” in June, her first album in seven years. It entered the Billboard 200 at No. 3, her highest-charting album to date. It’s one of the year’s finest works, brimming with raw emotion and gorgeous musical textures.

Insecurity sometimes gets the best of Apple. She’s often described as erratic and nervous onstage.

“It was by far the oddest show I’ve seen,” says Ashley Colin, a fan who attended Apple’s 2006 show at the Woodlands Pavilion. “She would come out onstage and sing the verses, then go to the side in between. She would turn away from the crowd, kind of hunching. It was so strange. She was all over the place. She would start a story and never finish it, just walk off.

“I was like, ‘I have to see this train wreck.’”

Apple’s Friday show at Bayou Music Center is expected to go on as planned. (Tickets are still on sale via livenation.com.) Tonight's show in Austin has been postponed.

That reminds me, my Mom used to make THE best roast beef hash in the world. I sure do miss her, and her good home cooking.

    Who is Fiona Apple?

    Anonymous124 Thu, 09/20/2012 - 2:47pm

She had a popular song or two in the mid/late 90s. I'm surprised she's still around.

Who cares? Actually, I wish I'd realized earlier that she was coming to town so that I could have setup a babysitter for my kid and gone.

There are some Counties in West Texas that should be avoided at all costs.
Law enforcement for profit seems to be becomeing the rule rather than the exception.

    joshd Thu, 09/20/2012 - 12:03pm

If you are traveling in a tour bus it would be wise to avoid Sierra Blanca

    C Rodriguez Thu, 09/20/2012 - 12:05pm

What a total waste of taxpayer money!

Let her go and arrest real criminals.

    SmartSexyGirl Thu, 09/20/2012 - 12:17pm

You'd think that with all the celebs they've arrested, they could afford better than a spray paint height chart. Legalize it already!

    kalki Thu, 09/20/2012 - 12:38pm

She must be broke. Choosing hash over weed is what the poor stoners do.

    Austin420 Thu, 09/20/2012 - 1:48pm

Umm I'd take hash over weed any day of the week.

    SB Thu, 09/20/2012 - 1:50pm

    Not really.
Real hash is hard to find and much better than weed. The hash you may be seeing is made in some hillbilly trailer or some facsimile.

    vxn27 Thu, 09/20/2012 - 5:04pm

Obviously you have never used real hash.

    JustinTexas Thu, 09/20/2012 - 12:53pm

WHO CARES? THE DANG STUFF SHOULDN'T BE ILLEGAL ANYWAY. MOST AMERICANS ARE TIRED OF THIS WASTE OF MONEY AND RESOURCES.

    SB Thu, 09/20/2012 - 1:08pm

    There is hash in Texas?

    Munchinondacheesecake Thu, 09/20/2012 - 2:51pm

    Yeah, in Austin.

    Database Guy Thu, 09/20/2012 - 1:47pm

Hmmmmm... Need to go to New York Bagel & Deli and get some Kosher hash and eggs.

    RBBR Thu, 09/20/2012 - 2:05pm

... "tickets still available", ha ha that's a good one.

And luv all the "hash experts" chiming in ... you should be very proud.

    DontDoDrugsMMMmmKay Thu, 09/20/2012 - 2:31pm

^^^This a million times... stupid druggies.

    this.guy Thu, 09/20/2012 - 2:06pm

Maybe we should arrest GOD for allowing this PLANT to grown.

God's on the corner, yea right over there... talking to a Republican. Loves to pull their legs.

Im seeing her tomorrow at Houston, hopefully!

    hungry goat Thu, 09/20/2012 - 3:48pm

Stupid waste of tax payer dollars. Here we have a productive citizen, not hurting anyone, visiting our state and spending money here on food, hotels, gas, whatever, and generating revenue and jobs for the venues that are hosting her...and this is what we care about. That there is some hash on her bus. Crazy. TX is the laughing stock of the USA and the world for this kinda thing.

    LPB Thu, 09/20/2012 - 5:18pm

Why do they call that a border stop? (serious)

    ty Thu, 09/20/2012 - 10:26pm

Hash will fudge a flicka up. not like weed duz

    CharlieV Fri, 09/21/2012 - 9:42am

They can find .01 lbs of hash on a Tour bus, but can't find over 100 criminals that tunneled out of a Mexican prison supposedly headed for Texas. Law enforcement at its finest. I don't think any drugs are safe including booze, but lets get our priorities straight.
