A Strait sellout: Dave Rossman: for the Chronicle
"George Strait Sells 77,000 Tickets in 2 Minutes for Houston Show!"
That's the breathless headline on a Billboard article about the country legend's March 17 performance, meant to send fans into a tizzy.
"Astronomical," says the update.
RodeoHouston chief operating office Leroy Shafer calls it "the hottest show we have put on sale in those 40 years. This is going to shatter all Reliant Stadium attendance records."
Yes, the Strait show is sold out and will likely break an attendance record. But 77,000 tickets in two minutes? Not so much.
According to a similar report last week on KPRC Ch. 2, it took one minute and 57 seconds for Strait seats to vanish once they went on sale.
But they didn't sell out 77,000 tickets in two minutes. They only sold out in two minutes the 7,134 tickets that were made available. In fact, there are 79,000 tickets total. Here's how the rodeo officials break it down:
According to Rodeo officials, "41,000 seats went to season ticket holders, 28,500 went to rodeo volunteers and members of George Strait's fan club and approximately 3,000 remaining seats are being held for suite passes and season tickets not yet sold."
So fast. But not that fast.
Other Rodeo shows selling quickly include Bruno Mars, Tim McGraw, the Band Perry, Zac Brown Band, Lady Antebellum, Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Pitbull, Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan. Most only have upper level seats remaining.
Don't everyone freak out...His farewell tour is booked through 2014..He will probably be here for 2 more times...
7,134 out of 79,000 tickets. THat explains everything. If you are not a season ticket holder or volunteer (69,500 tickets), you are screwed.
We have been anxiously waiting since May 10, 2012, when the Chronicle reported George Strait coming to the rodeo, to have the chance to purchase tickets to see him. Then to read that the tickets were virtually all taken from the get-go is downright wrong. They should have informed the public from the beginning the concert would practically be a private affair. That was just plain deceiving.
Is George Strait?
Let's see - 69,500 tickets go to season ticket holders and volunteers and Leroy Schaffer can't figure out who is selling their tickets to scalpers???? Makes sense to me.
Since Strait is a phoney as a $3 bill, no wonder his publicist and agent with assist from Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo blurbed an incredibly FAKE story..just like Goerge's FAKE poor ole me persona..google how many airplanes, yachts and custom cycles this Rich SOB has
Oh my gosh! An entertainer who's rich? How can that BE!?! You a little bitter about something dude? Obviously he didn't reply to your fan mail.
And that "Fake SOB" earned every bit of it!
This is a big change of direction for the rodeo... volunteers cannot get in, no rodeo that day, expensive tickets.... it's an entirely different thing. time will tell if it is a good idea.
I quit going when they quit having top notch cowboys participate and when I found out that the stock show was rigged for the most part.
