Guide to this fall's monster Block Party: Part II

I covered Saturday's Free Press Block Party schedule yesterday, so let's take a look at Sunday.

Bands you should not miss and links to figure out why you should not miss them:

Tyagaraja, Wild Moccasins, Spain Colored Orange, Sideshow Tramps, Two Star Symphony, Something Fierce, News on the March, Bright Men of Learning, Mechanical Boy, I Am Mesmer, Grandfather Child, Come See My Dead Person.

Now, onto the less familiar names on the schedule.

Football, etc. -- While I think it's cute that this indie/emo band's songs are all named for things related to football, I'm underwhelmed.

Flow Factory -- How can you do anything but like a hip-hop group that writes a song based on the "wah wah" noise that Charlie Brown's teacher makes?

Journey Agents: There's an edge to this funk band. When a funk band isn't focused, I lose interest, but these guys seem to have an idea of where they're going.

Forests -- Did you like By the End of Tonight? You'll like Forests. It's pretty, instrumental rock.

    More Cowbell -- Middling country-rock.

Room 101 -- I would like to see how this one-man punk band translates live. I would also like to know how you can be based in both Chicago and Houston, because I really like Chicago and wouldn't mind also being based there.

The State Vs. Judd Nelson -- THIS BAND IS VERY LOUD. VERY, VERY LOUD.

The Burden -- Screaming punk/thrash. Dark.

Clement -- Guy with guitar writing pop-folk songs. You know, it's ok.

A.T.W. -- Hip-hop duo with some likable moments.

Framing Strangers -- Austin pop band notable for two female leads. Also notable for being perhaps the only "adult alternative"-sounding band on the schedule. It's pretty, no doubt about it.

Fiskadoro -- Experimental electronic noise, perhaps something Ramon likes.

Chocolate Crucifix -- So. Wait. Are the songs really a few seconds of grunting and drums? Points for being ludicrous.

Holy Fiction -- Earthy folk-pop with journeys down experimental rock territory. I like a warbling singer.

Bands scheduled that I can't find internet homes for:

The Swervys, Fly Nice, The Cadences, Thou Shalt Not Kill...except (I can make out that they're a noise band from google results), Hero, White Guilt, The Julys, Smoky Mountain, Horse.

Noon-10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Numbers, Avant Garden, Mango's. Free.

Room 101 came originally from Chicago and moved to Houston. Brutal live performance - shame he's scheduled so early as most will miss his set.

Chocolate Crucifix are amazing live and they have a brilliant sense of humor to boot. One of the most fun shows you could possibly catch but careful if you dilly dally as their set will likely clock in at under 10 minutes.

I highly recommend both to anyone who's never seen them before.

Thanks for including Two Star Symphony in your "Bands you should not miss" category! However, there have been some scheduling changes, and Two Star will be performing SATURDAY, not Sunday. Two Star Symphony performs Saturday night at 9 p.m. on the parking lot stage of AvantGarden. Sorry for the confusion.
