Ian Moore. Photo by ConquerooOver the past two decades, guitar ace Ian Moore has proven a restless and creative spirit. But when he got started in Austin way back when, he was a hotshot blues-rock guitarist as evidenced by the electric sounds of his self-titled 1993 debut.
Moore’s no stranger to these parts, especially this year, since he’s been touring behind his excellent new power-pop album, El Sonido Nuevo. But this visit is the rare one in which he’s looking back, though likely without the puffy, paisley shirts. Moore has reunited his original band — keyboardist Bukka Allen, bassist Chris White and drummer Michael Villegas — for a short tour, its first in nearly 15 years. The set will feature songs from the Moore’s self-titled 1993 debut, 1995’s Modernday Folklore and an unreleased third album, the last one featuring that lineup (many of the songs from that recording were re-recorded and released on Moore’s 2000 album And All the Colors. There are also plans to finally release that album.
In addition to the band’s shows Thursday and Friday at the Continental Club, Moore will be signing posters at 8 p.m. Thursday at Sig’s Lagoon, 3622-E Main. Starting at 11 a.m. Thursday, the first 50 people to show a ticket for Thursday’s show will receive a free mini-poster for the event.

I miss the old bluesy Ian Moore. Have most of his albums and enjoy them often.
This should be a good show. If he plays an old set he is hard to beat. I strongly disagree with anyone that characterizes his new music as "excellent new power-pop album". I think his new music is garbage. This guy was one of my absolute favorite artists and I cannot think of an another artist who's change in creative direction has resulted in such a poor product. I mean its awful. Very disapointing. It reminds me of when I was a kid getting into Rush, circa Signals and there were these older guys that just shook their heads and said "no. Rush has changed. they suck." I didn't agree with that, but I understood it.
Ever since the "Steamboat" days in 1992 & 1993...I have loved this group...I have followed Ian Moore ever since....and while I still love everything he has done...this grouping was my favorite...lyrics music, guitar and vocals were amazing...I still play the original CD regularly to this day.....would love to see them in Austin...but live so far away now....you never know...
I absolutely DO believe his new record is correctly categorized as "excelelnt new power pop" - the live shows behind it (w/ a "power trio" since someone gave a Rush reference - which Ian would find hysterical btw) have been rocking and awesome. I also look forward to these shows w/ the original band. Anybody who "gets" Ian's music can see the evolution of his music in a very connected way. I really appreciate an artist who follows his truth (as an actual "artist") vs. all of the sell-outs on the charts - today and back then. I think Kenny Wayne Shepherd is still touring (casinos I think) playing the same music all these years for those who don't want to see a blues-rock artist evolve!
