Jandek: kind of blue

Nearly a year after Sterling Smith last assembled a group of local musicians to perform as Jandek, he's set a new date with a new set of collaborators. This time out the ensemble will be Smith -- likely on guitar and vocals -- accompanied by Erich Avinger on space guitar (?) and flute, May Dyer on cello, Isabelle Ganz performing vocalese and James Metcalf on percussion. A harpist will be named later.

Like the electronics-filled set at Big Star bar last year, this one promises to be out there. Unlike the the electronics-filled set at Big Star bar last year, this one will likely be better air conditioned. The show will take place at 6 p.m. March 10 at St. Paul's Methodist Church.

Smith/Jandek spent years making recordings in Houston without performing live. But over the past several years he's begun doing occasional shows, including about one each year in town. A bit of background here.
