Wow, I think that's the first time I've ever been completely disappointed in a KTRU outdoor show headliner. I'm not sure which is worse Rafter's utterly generic music or the smug video.
a free all day music festival put on by a non profit organization...
so maybe you don't like Rafter (i mean, i really do... have you heard stuff from his album that is dropping just 3 days after the concert), but what about Fat Tony, Ghost Mountain, Space City Gamelan... these are some amazing acts to have
support the hard work of one of the best college radio stations in the country and a houston institution
Gotta a little chip on your shoulder, eh? I have no affiliation with Rice. I just like good indie radio with freedom and variety in their playlists. I have lived in a lot of cities and Houston is lucky to have KTRU. It has nothing to do with whatever classist nonsense that you seem to be fixated on. Why don't relax and enjoy a little music. It my sooth your spirit.
Just cause it's free don't make it worth my time. I may drop in for the worthy locals acts but, if I were out and about in the evening on Saturday, I'd sure as hell spend my time at either the Holly Golightly show at Mangos or the Black Congress 7" release show with Golden Axe at Rudyard’s both of which would be a hell of a lot more interesting than the headliner. Is that being spoiled. No, it's called having some level of personal taste that clearly doesn't align with the bookers of this year's outdoor festival.
Here is the rule. If a band comes to town they need to be better than or at LEAST as interesting as the local talent and Rafter is one act where my first thought is "Jeez I can go out most any week and go see a more interesting artist." Sorry but it's horribly ho-hum generic indie-rock and, free or not, there are better options Saturday Night.
Haha I totally agree with the person with the beer question!
I agree that people can have their own personal taste. But there is no reason to be a jerk about other people's music.
I met both fellows in Rafter yesterday, and they are two of the most non pretentiously cool guys anyone could meet. They're a fun band to watch, but they're not interested in an indie rock beard-pulling contest, nor are they interested in fulfilling your precious indie-rock pajama party fantasies. They're cool - they're not hipsters. Maybe this is what offends you all so.

San Diego FAIL!
I could not agree with Ramon more. Come on KTRU, you had Ratatat, you had Okkerville River, what happened?
WASPANDPEAR is gonna flatten 'em. You'll see.
headliners cost money. ktru 50 cent student tax increase FAIL.
Do crap headliners cost more than good ones?
Three crap for the price of one.
are you people serious?

LOL! Certainly some rich Rice kid could've gotten their parents to chip in for a big name band!
Well, to those attending, if you are not impressed with the lineup, just rattle your jewelry and tiaras in protest.
