There’s nothing I enjoy killing more than metaphorical birds, and any day I have the chance to kill two of them with one metaphorical stone is a good day. I’d talked to Ryan Grimes (aka Love Field) about shooting a clip for awhile, and after we’d had our obligatory scheduling adventures and set a day he asked if Fat Tony could come and film a session as well. I couldn’t have manipulated it better myself, though I probably could have stood to clean up my place before they came over (I had two bands’ worth of instruments strewn around the apartment from a recent rehearsal, as well as plenty of soda bottles and assorted other garbage that seems to spontaneously generate every once and awhile).
A recent Houstonian (he was a member of Washington, D.C. post-rock outfit Cutlery), Grimes is one of the most promising local musicians operating right now. As Love Field he channels a wonderfully digital version of dark, chilly 4AD-style pop through his laptop programming, and his heartstrung (dare I say emotive) vocals are an 18th century gloveslap-in-the-face challenge to every songwriter content to mumble and mutter his way through a bedroom recording. And let’s face it – having Fat Tony on your side is a very good thing (he wrote his verse for this song on the spot and I’ll be damned if it doesn’t slay).
Tune in soon for Fat Tony’s clip. I hope you like Ramones covers because that’s what you’re getting.
The 4 second tune is our next single.
