Man I love me some Buxton. They call themselves a folk band because I guess it’s not cool to call yourself a country band, but neither of those tell the entire story, and even putting them together only gets you halfway. Their songs can be as blistering and intense as the noisiest punk band that ever spilled your drink on your date, or as gentle and tender as falling asleep on the front porch in the afternoon. Sergio Trevino’s voice can seesaw from a rusty creak to a honey-dipped croon to a righteous bellow (it’s a three-sided seesaw, I guess); it’s one of the greatest instruments in local music these days.
They came by my place without much of an idea of what they were going to do but were quickly reassured when I told them I didn’t really know what I was doing either. "Reassured" is probably the wrong word there but you get me. They ended up playing for close to an hour, basically giving me an awesome free Buxton concert in the comfort of my own home. Here’s highlight Flint from their forthcoming 7” EP. Check them out at their release party at Mango’s on July 11 with the Wild Moccasins and Ghost Mountain.
MAN I LOVE THIS SERIES JOE! :) THAT MADE MY MORNING!
It is a lovely video and I am in love with it.
Loving it. I can't figure out whether to go out and buy their EP or see if Joe needs a roommate.
Last I heard, Joe needs a roommate. Also, you should pick up Buxton's last full-length album, A Family Light.
What a great sound! How do I get them to come play in my living room?
