Since I started doing things here at 29-95 I've had the pleasure of inviting a number of my favorite local musicians to play songs in my living room while I filmed them. Half the time (okay, almost all the time) the band would show up without any sort of plan and end up playing more songs than we’re able to post here. It seems selfish of me just to sit on all this great footage, so this week I thought I’d share some bonus Live from My Living Room clips from bands I featured last year.
Up first is Young Mammals, a group who’d never played an acoustic set before we shot this. They ran through almost every song they knew, many of them more than once, and I pieced together this clip of their Jesus ‘n’ Trains epic “848” from several rehearsal takes. Watch for former drummer Ryan Chavez (currently murdering floor toms for Grandfather Child) finessing the sound, lead singer Carlos Sanchez reminding his bandmates to “project” during the bridge, and a couple of parts where my brilliant cinema verite instincts backfire and end up making me feel sorta creepy (it’s hard getting used to living across the street from a junior high).
Check out the other Young Mammals song I posted right here and be sure to check in tomorrow for another video.
