Looking for dirt-cheap New Year's Eve entertainment? Live music always fits the price.
The 10th Annual No Cover New Year's Bash at the Continental Club: Beetle at 9 p.m., Allen Oldies Band at 11 p.m. As Allen Hill says, "Prepare yourself for old traditions such as peanut butter tastings, champagne snorting and Schlitz sipping and see what new traditions spring forth from the excitement!"
Los Skarnales anchors a bill at Fitzgerald's with The Jungle Rockers, Subrosa Union, The B Sharps and Suckerfish. $10. (I wouldn't go downstairs, where you might run into a band calling itself Vag. Scabs.)
NYN7: New Years Noise! at Super Happy Fun Land featuring a whole slew of noisemakers: Bryce Clayton Eiman, The Annoysters, Muzak John, Andrew Weathers, Instinct Control, Peter J. Woods, Richard Ramirez, Thou Shalt Not Kill...Except, a Fail Association, Concrete Violin, Zahava, Cop Warmth, Dogs Hit Taco, How I Quit Crack, Rusted Shut, Kyle Evans, and Thunder Puppet. $10.
Free Press Houston's New Year's Eve party featuring Sideshow Tramps, Grandfather Child, Hollywood Floss, Female Demand, The Manichean and Robert Ellis. At Mango's, obviously. $10.
Goth New Year's Eve at Meridian, featuring performances by Mike Terror, Synthetic Fiend, DJ Whisperwish and DJ Chem Croix. $10; $5 before 11 p.m.
A Blaggards show is always sort of like New Year's Eve. People get just as drunk. Ashford Arms Irish Pub. $10.
Houston Marchman at Armadillo Palace. Free.
Flowers To Hide, If The War Should End and The Watermarks. The Mink. $6; $8 under 21.
St. Cloud, Jonny Burke and Dustin Welch at Rudyard's.
Here are some less affordable options:
Totally '80s New Year's Eve Bash at House of Blues featuring something called Thunderpants. $30.
Eli Young Band at Verizon Wireless Theater. $23.50-$37.50.
Honeybrowne and Brian Burke at Firehouse Saloon. $20.
The only hilariously unaffordable show is:
Cross Canadian Ragweed at another room at House of Blues. $55-$150.
I can't imagine what kind of money fountains you have in your house if you would pay $150 to see a pop-country band that looks like Nickelback.
