Lots of haunts in this ghoul's night out of music

Halloween night’s lineup of shows in Houston is scary good. If you’re a fan of hip-hop, punk rock, ska and indie, then you’ll have plenty to choose from on this ghoul’s night out.

    Nas, Lauryn Hill

You can’t talk about hip-hop and R&B from the 1990s without mentioning Nas or Lauryn Hill. Nas, one of the most respected rappers in the game, remains raw and relevant while others from that era have gone to the hip-hop graveyard.

    When: 8 p.m. Wednesday

Where: Bayou Music Center, 502 Texas; Tickets: $54.50-$64.50

Kevin Seconds with Kepi Ghoulie, Toys That Kill, Something Fierce

You wouldn’t guess from hearing Kevin Seconds’ solo stuff that he used to front one of the most influential hard-core bands around in 7 Seconds. Seconds’ “softer” side is still full of gusto though. Locals Something Fierce will make sure you have a hair-raising good time as well.

    When: 8 p.m. Wednesday

Where: Walter’s, 1120 Naylor; Tickets: $5 with costume, $8 without

Street Dogs with Riverboat Gamblers, Cobra Skulls and Dead to the World

The Street Dogs have a killer lineup in store with Denton rock ’n’ rollers the Riverboat Gamblers, the folky-punk of Cobra Skulls and Houston’s own Dead to the World.

    When: 7 p.m. Wednesday

Where: House of Blues, 1204 Caroline; Tickets: $10.50 -$16

The Front Bottoms with Cheap Girls

An acoustic guitar and a drum set are all the Front Bottoms need to produce music that is as honest as it is catchy. Joining the Front Bottoms are the indie-rockers of Cheap Girls, making this a bill to die for.

    When: 9 p.m Wednesday

    Where: Mango’s, 403 Westheimer ; Tickets: $10

Streetlight Manifesto with the Wonder Years, Supervillians and Dan Potthast

If ska is indeed dead, then the dead are walking, skankin’ and playing brass instruments. Pop-punk band the Wonder Years is the only non-ska act on the tour, but they bring enough energy to fit right in.

    When: 7:30 p.m. Wednesday

Where: Warehouse Live, 813 St. Emanuel; Tickets: $17.50

    Scary-oke

If you want to conjure up the spirits to get on stage yourself, head over to the House of Blues and exorcise your singing demons with Scary-oke, a costume-themed karaoke party.

    When: 9 p.m. Wednesday

Where: Crossroads room at the House of Blues, 1204 Caroline; Tickets: Free admission
