MTV loves the Tontons, finally

We've loved the Tontons for years. There's nothing quite like Asli Omar's velvety rasp of a voice, right? Other folks are (finally) noticing, too.

MTV's Buzzworthy Blog picked up "Golden" for its "New Song" feature today, zeroing in on Omar's "empowering, emotional lead vocal."

We agree. So much so that I included the EP of the same name in my 2011 best-of list.

The band performs at the PopPopPOP Pop Montreal Festival in September and will be touring the East Coast through October. Then, it’s back into the studio for a follow-up to the “Golden” EP. But first, one final Houston show this year.

    The TonTons
With Austin’s Quiet Company and newbie Houston band Featherface. When: 8 p.m. Saturday; Where: Warehouse Live, 813 St. Emanuel; Tickets: $10; 713-225-5483 or warehouselive.com.

First off, congratulations to the Ton Tons, it is well deserved.

But that said, my reaction, after the initial Hooray! was "Wait, MTV does music?!!!" I swear!
