Friday, Feb. 5:
• Start your crazy, no-holds-barred Super Bowl weekend off with Dirty Dozen Brass Band at Warehouse Live.
• Come See My Dead Person and Giant Battle Monster at Rudyard's.
• Americana singer-songwriter Radney Foster at Dosey Doe. Worth the trip. Even worth the $6 for the Hardy Toll Road.
• Hometown roots favorites The Hollisters at Blanco's.
• Grandfather Child at Big Star Bar.
• Wind player Bob Chadwick and vibes player Harry Sheppard accompany your dinner at Dharma Cafe. Ask Chadwick to pull out his bass flute. It's awesome. Starts early: 6 p.m.
• Daniel Higgs/JD Emmanuel/more at The Husk (Read about it here.)
• Sondre Lerche at Wired Live/Meridian (See the photo gallery inspired by the show here.)
• Haiti benefit with Nosaprise, Fat Tony and Ghormeh Sabzi at Mango's.
• Every male music writer in Houston has a man-crush on Justin Townes Earle. He's at the Mucky Duck.
• I'll never stop loving Susan Gibson, no matter how many years have passed since she wrote Wide Open Spaces. At Anderson Fair.
• Jon Wolfe at Armadillo Palace. He's all George Strait country, none of that country-pop you see on awards shows. Tall. He's also tall.
• Even less polished country: Johnny Falstaff at Cypress Saloon.
Saturday, Feb. 6:
Our very favorite punk chamber-music group, Two Star Symphony, teams up with Austin-based chamber-pop octet, Tiny Tin Hearts, at Rudyard's. Lovely! Show of the night.
Local indie-folk band that I just learned about, Fox Derby, will play an in-store set at 2 p.m. Cactus Music.
Very fine singer-songwriters Tim Easton, Betty Soo and Will Sexton will be at The Listening Room (Read more about Tim Easton here.)
I guess Shawn Pander keeps moving back and forth between Texas and Los Angeles. After another couple of months in Houston, he's headed back to L.A., but not before a farewell show at Ernie's on Banks.
The Greencards are a Mucky Duck favorite, and the progressive bluegrass band returns there this night.
The annual Rory Miggins Memorial Irish Stew Cookoff is a daytime event at the Continental Club. Performers include Blaggards, the Mighty Orq and more. See the lineup here. Noon-6 p.m.
I like this band name: Drew Smith's Lonely Choir. Opening for Graham Wilkinson and the Underground Township at the Continental Club. (And playing SXSW this year.)
Oh, hey, it's Arthur Yoria at the Corner Pub in Conroe. If you're in Conroe, you don't have much else to do, right?
Ben Allison and Man Size Safe at Wortham Center.
Yeah, yeah. G.Love is silly. I know. Regardless: G. Love & Special Sauce with Redeye Empire at Warehouse Live.
