Former Houstonian Tody Castillo returns to town for two shows this weekend. Friday night at Brasil, 9 p.m. And Sunday night at Block 7 Wine, 7 p.m. Free.
Saturday, March 6:
Drama jockey Jennifer Grassman releases her new disc, Serpent Tales & Nightingales, which sounds more mature than previous recordings and will appeal to Tori Amos fans who also love musical theater. Dowling Music Recital Hall. 7 p.m. $10.
The SXSW-in-Houston shows begin in earnest this weekend with showcasing band Dawes along with Cory Chisel and Jason Boesel at Rudyard's. (Cory Chisel will also be at Cactus Music. 1 p.m. Free.)

Austin's Mobley kicked off its tour Thursday with the release of its new album, Cold War Cold and heads straight for Houston. With the Watermarks and Smoky Mountain at The Mink.
Some familiar favorites: Spain Colored Orange, with the Sour Notes and Chase Hamblin. The Continental Club.
Sunday, March 7:
One Big Owl from Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Music For Young Adults at Super Happy Fun Land.
Three lovely young singing ladies: Elaine Greer, Gretchen Schmaltz and Clory Martin. 3 p.m. The roof at Khon's.
