Friday (April 3):
Looks like the show of the day is the Lisa's Sons (file under: video game, indie-rock) tour kick-off show featuring one million other local indies: Fight Pretty (file under: screaming, punk), Guitars (file under: guitars), Muhammad Ali (file under: punk to bob you're head to), Blackie (file under: not gonna spell your name how you want it, so there) and others, if you can believe it.

Saturday (April 4):
Austin's Invincible Czars is a mostly-instrumental band that takes its sound all over the map within the country of experimental rock. This is their Houston CD release party for Masquerade. Black-and-white attire is encouraged. With a couple of other Austin bands: Lick Lick (art rock/pop) and Opposite Day (new wave/pop/rock).
10 p.m. Rudyard's, 2010 Waugh.
The McKenzies (indie-pop), Giant Battle Monster (monsterish punk/rock), Paris Falls (indie-rock).
Details: 10 p.m. The Mink, 3718 Main St.
At some point last year my boyfriend decided to become a self-described "jazz tool," which is how I know who composer Billy Strayhorn is. Not only an accomplished composer who worked closely with Duke Ellington, Strayhorn was openly gay. In the 1940s. Which couldn't have been easy. Joe LoCascio (piano), David Craig (bass) and Sebastian Whittaker (drums) -- an exciting trio to watch -- will perform Strayhorn's compositions at this show.
Details: 9 p.m.-1 a.m. $10. Cezanne, 4100 Montrose.
Nebraska's Chiara String Quartet's slogan is "chamber music in any chamber." They also cover Prince's Let's Go Crazy. They're playing a free, family concert at the Museum of Fine Arts Sunday at 3 p.m. and a Da Camera event 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Menil Collection ($35), but I bet you'll be more amenable to their show at Avant Garden with Houston's very own any-chamber maids, Two Star Symphony.
Details: 10 p.m. Avant Garden, 411 Westheimer.
Time for the 6th annual MDA Crawfish Boil & Music Festival featuring country music from Bleu Edmondson, Kyle Park, Bourbon Street, Kyle Bennett Band, Rich O'Toole and Robert Frith. One assumes there will be crawfish.
Details: 4:30 p.m. $40. Warehouse Live, 813 St. Emanuel.
Sunday (April 5):
Experimental/noise/blues? musician Jandek performs a rare club show.
Details: 4 p.m. $4. Rudyard's, 2010 Waugh.
Catastrophic Theatre will honor its late member, Cary Winscott, with a music and video tribute to the actor and musician.
