I have a soft spot for Selena. She was not only my introduction to Tejano music, but to Spanish music en general. Pre-Selena, I barely gave it a chance. Now, it's a huge part of my history (and my CD collection).
That's why I'm excited about Enamorada de Ti, a new disc featuring Selena's biggest hits recast as duets with Cristian Castro, Don Omar, Selena Gómez and Juan Magán. (Others will be announced soon.) The first single is a ballad version of Amor Prohibido featuring former Camila vocalist Samo. (Listen above.)
It works surprisingly well with the new twists. What do you think?
Selena was named Artist of the Decade by Billboard magazine and became the first artist to simultaneously place five Spanish-language releases in the Billboard 200. Her songs are still in regular rotation on Latin and adult-contemporary radio.
Enamorada de Ti is due April 3.
Love it Joey. I like the this remake. Samo sounds great. And I love that it is a new take on the song. However, I am not sure how to feel about the many different verisons the Quintanilla family keeps releasing.
I wondered how long it would be before they started remix pimping her post-mortem. Selena was one of a kind and she left us way too soon but I just don't like this idea. I'll listen and give it a fair shot, but is this done in sincere devotion or are they taking advantage of people's love for her?
Either it's good music or it's not. Good music should live on.
AS A SELENA FAN, I AM VERY EXCITED! I HOPE TO GOD THIS CD GETS LOTS OF PUBLICITY. I CAN ALREADY HEAR A GRAMMY WIN!
Hear Hear!!!
People say that the Q's are just milking her legacy. Honestly, this is what the fans want. We don't get to get new releases of "unheard music" so remixes are what we get and I am quite happy to get them. Now if they only would release some live dvds ;)
will people be writing her name on their cars again?
I am a fan, but will not buy. After her death, her daddy released albums with the same songs just rearranged. So no thank you.
I agree that the Quintanilla family releases and re-releases every mix and remix possible of her music, but the same can be said of other artists who died way before their time...in Tejano music, the Naranjo family has been doing that since Ruben Naranjo passed away in the late 90s, and Ricky Naranjo has made a career of covering his father's songs. As someone else posted on here, if it's what the people want, then go for it! I won't buy the CD. While I was a fan, I wasn't a crazy die hard fan, and I really don't like that people think of her as the beginning and end of Tejano music. I would like to see a re-release of Joe Martinez's CD, the one he made when he left the Hometown Boys...
