So Wilco has lined up a fall tour that includes an Oct. 8 date in Cedar Park and an Oct. 9 date in Dallas. The band then heads to Memphis for Oct. 10. It seems unlikely with an Oct. 6 date in Kansas City that Houston would be routed for Oct. 7.
It's a little early to come up with something as goofily self-indulgent as an enemies list of those who wander into Texas only to skip its largest city -- especially since many bands playing the Austin City Limits Festival seem to have off days before or after that could end up meaning bookings here. And some fun indie rock types have booked here (Bowerbirds, Dodos, Fruit Bats) along with some bigger acts (Mars Volta, Mastodon!). And this weekend's SummerFest has a chunky lineup.
But a few current skipees include:
Magnolia Electric Co. just did an Austin/Denton twofer. Maybe once the temperature drops in the fall the routing will get friendlier.
Don't bet on it.
- Avishai Cohen
- Hiromi
- Esbjornn Svensson Trio (yeah, the guy's dead now, but they never came close to Houston.)
Yeah, but we get Coldplay and Kings of Leon twice per year. (kidding!). We just need to get 94.5 to play Wilco and our other favorites. If the kids think that Wilco is the new c*ck rock, maybe their statistics will show they can play an ampitheather here. But, didnt they play Stubbs last time in Austin?@!? What gives?
