Slim Thug is proud of his Cougars. So he crafted a song about it. The Houston rapper paired up with Paul Wall and Bun B for U of H Fight, a tribute to our college football team. He released the tune today via Twitter and his weekly #ThugThursday updates.

"Because I'm from Houston and the name of my mixtape thats coming out Dec.22nd is titled Houston it's only right for I rep for U of H," he tweeted.

"I know I'm being selfish this week by repping for the coogs but I'm proud of them Boyz they been balling this year and we support them."

Great, now UH has t-shirt fans.

    cg2243 Thu, 12/01/2011 - 2:37pm

So what? UH deserves the attention and not just for its football program.

    clrob1 Thu, 12/01/2011 - 3:02pm

Please don't steal lame Aggie terms like "T-Shirt fans"...I'm an alum and I don't care where the support for the team comes from. This is Houston's university.

    Darryl Thu, 12/01/2011 - 4:58pm

Settle down, Beavis; I'll be there Thursday for my last final exam before I graduate with my second degree from UH. I can be as horrified as I want about this thug trying to get some notoriety off the backs of my football team's efforts. Where was he last year?

    UH Cougar 2011 Thu, 12/01/2011 - 5:45pm

" I can be as horrified as I want about this thug..."
Just because they are rappers doesn't mean they are thugs.

    Where was he last year?

Slim Thug has participated in hiphop lectures at the University of Houston in the past. Bun B is a profesor at Rice and a hiphop lengend, it is an honor for him to make a song about U of H. Paul Wall went to the University of Houston, he has been spotted at games in the past. The University of Houston has played his song "riding dirty" at football games, the band even dance to it during halftime.

Just because they may not walk, talk, or dress like you doesn't mean you should pass judgement on them. I've been waiting for a remix of the fight song for years and I think its an honor.

    Right On !

    CougarGrad Thu, 12/01/2011 - 2:25pm

Awesome. To quote a line from an obscure R.E.M. song, "There's lots of room for you on the bandwagon."

    Texmex01 Thu, 12/01/2011 - 2:43pm

"I know I'm being selfish this week by repping for the coogs but I'm proud of them Boyz they been balling this year and we support them."

Well, that just sums it all up right there...Eyeroll

    Jose Thu, 12/01/2011 - 2:47pm

I think it's awesome to support the Cougers no matter who you are. They've done great this year. But hey, that's just me. I agree wholeheartedly with LadyJay

    Peace Out Thu, 12/01/2011 - 3:09pm

I think its all in good fun for football and all but this is an institution of higher learning. I personally wouldn't want Slim Thug or the Grill Guy to be associated with the place that I hold a degree from. Will Bobby Brown be reppin for Harvard next? No thanks

    cWj Thu, 12/01/2011 - 4:04pm

The lack of sense in that comment is astounding.

    Lu Fri, 12/02/2011 - 10:28am

    Ditto!

    cee dub Fri, 12/02/2011 - 4:20pm

what the actual ef? you said that as if a univ in third ward is a bad thing. we got college cred AND street cred

    Lloydster Thu, 12/01/2011 - 3:25pm

FYI.....Paul Wall actually went to UH.

Plus, who cares anyways. Attention for UH is good. Period.

    CoogGirl Thu, 12/01/2011 - 3:47pm

This is a new tailgate anthem. Very fun! If you want to be negative about this, get over it. We're excited to have something to cheer about and you should be proud or allow us to be proud. To have any music artist giving attention to a university is good. We want everyone to feel connected to a higher learning campus and hopefully make the effort to attend one! Go Coogs!

    clrob1 Thu, 12/01/2011 - 3:52pm

Apparently some of the folks would prefer Clay Walker or Toby Kieth...nevermind that most of the players don't know who they are...

    Brandon Thu, 12/01/2011 - 3:54pm

The song is bad. And I like UH. And hip hop. Whatever this is should be noted as representative of neither.

    AustinCoog Thu, 12/01/2011 - 5:32pm

I don't think they would record "The Eyes of Texas are upon you" to a rap beat. It would never go down in Austin. But thats what makes UH and Houston better than UT and Austin. In Austin a bunch of geeky white guys in black turtle neck sweaters looking like they are auditioning for the Pat Boone show is considered real entertainment, in Houston, its not.

    UHAlum Thu, 12/01/2011 - 7:08pm

Ridin Dirty was by Chamillionaire, but he also went to UH. Paul Wall went to UH and even performed a concert at UH after one game most people know his stuff like Sittin Sideways or the collabo he did with Kanye called Drive Slow.

I am an alum, and I am glad that Houstonians are taking pride in UH regardless of who they are (celebrity or not). Hate is bad for your health.

    EE ALUM Thu, 12/01/2011 - 7:13pm

I dont like rap......but THIS IS WELL DONE!!!

    TTURedRaider Thu, 12/01/2011 - 7:14pm

I'm from Houston, and to see that the local artist are supporting the local university shows that people do notice what around them. If your too busy judging the man who calls himself "Slim Thug" then you've missed the entire point of the article and goes to show that your perspective in life is still stuck in the past. If you can't accept the man then you'll never accept what he's about. From the article it sounds like he's about supporting higher education and the promotion of his hometown university, through supporting the football team. Besides do you even really know what a thug is?

    Don Thu, 12/01/2011 - 7:33pm

    I like it!

    JG Thu, 12/01/2011 - 8:11pm

I graduated from UT, but I was raised in the city that bangs their music slow...that was awesome!!!!!

    HatersBall Thu, 12/01/2011 - 8:38pm

this is gonna be played every gameday. ever again. needz to be slowed though.

    Jesse Thu, 12/01/2011 - 10:00pm

    Arty Fri, 12/02/2011 - 8:47am

Alumni checkin in and that was great. These guys have come to bat for the Astros, Texans and now the Coogs. Eat Em Up.

Aww heck yes! Gonna blow out the back window with this tomorrow!

    UHALUNIANDTEACHER Fri, 12/02/2011 - 12:14pm

FYI: I just played the song for my high school students and they all loved it. I am at a very strong "football high school" and the players loved it. They actually said a few more things about the fight song but that is what it basically translates into. Anything to get the local athletes to stay local.

    Brandon Sat, 12/03/2011 - 8:12am

If you dont like/care for rap particularly so much, fine, its not my cup of tea either BUT this is freakin awesome. And I think as alumni and people claiming to be alumni, we should support our alma mater. UH does deserve the respect and accolades it has been getting lately. Maybe this isnt the first way everyone would prefer but, its still positive for the school. Dont forget, this is a TIER ONE University in the 3rd Ward of Houston, TX. They can't help that the location is not as wonderful now as it may have been in 1927 when the University was founded. This fits the fairly well with the current culture of the University, and if you dont like it, sorry. Not every rapper is a thug and there are plenty of politicians and "upstanding" citizens that are not so upstanding. Quit judging people and complaining for the sake of complaining. Just embrace national media attention being heaped upon our alma mater and support your school Pride. GO COOGS!!

    Homemadegoodness Sat, 12/03/2011 - 11:44am

Haters are gonna hate, but the Coogs are for real.

    Ratsnorp Sun, 12/04/2011 - 12:49pm

Great theme song for the best high school football team in the city.

    Woo.

    Hoo.
