Photo by Mayra Beltran: Walter's on Washington
There's not much in the way of facts just yet, but the Houston Press has reported that Walter's on Washington is being sold and will be closing at the end of October, with hopes to relocate.
Roy Mata, a long-time bartender at Walter’s, confirmed to 29-95 that the club will reopen, but not on Washington Avenue. He declined to give details on the timing or location.
Jeff Balke weighed in with a look at all of the genuinely cool music venues that have been turned into less-cool bars, vacant lots, apartment buildings, etc. along Washington Avenue.
Update: The Houston Press snagged the interview with Walter's owner Pam Robinson, and it sounds like really good news for Houston-music fans.
We're actually pretty excited about the new place. It's a whole new chapter. Hopefully it's in an area where there's never been live music or any bars or anything like that. This is going to be exciting. It's going to bring some attention to an area that's long overdue. Imagine - downtown with parking. Free parking!
Hmm. Any guesses as to where she's talking about?
