This Friday at Walter's, 29-95 presents The Wild Moccasins in what will surely be an important show in the Houston band's career: the CD release party for its debut full-length CD, Skin Collision Past.
Andrew has been tap tap tapping away at a proper review of the disc, but SPOILER ALERT: it's fucking good. It should be on the tip of everyone's tongues this summer. It should be reviewed by all the top mags, it should land the band on the cover of one of those mags, it should be the first thing you purchase when you get paid this Friday, before you buy your groceries, even.
AON Sessions: Wild Moccasins, "Skin Collision Past" from All Our Noise on Vimeo.
We have three copies of the disc to give away along with three pairs of tickets to see the show at Walter's, which will be a crowded affair. I'll send the discs out in the mail by the end of the day Tuesday, meaning you should have it by Thursday, meaning you can listen to the whole thing before it can even be purchased. This is old-school pop-radio excitement.
In order to win the disc/tickets prize pack, leave a comment about your favorite Wild Moccasins song. Three winners will be chosen at random by 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Please note: You must be a registered user on the site to win.
Wild Moccasins CD release party with Roky Moon & BOLT and Giant Princess. Doors open at 8 p.m. Friday. $10. All ages. Walter's on Washington. Free CD with admission.
Spanish and Jazz is a part of my summer of '09 soundtrack, my favorite of theirs so far. Being quite poor, I hope I get selected to see how their new cd compares.
My fav is 'Shiny Strings' it has such a sexy vibe and makes me so happy I want to dance all around!!
My favorite song is shiny strings!
'Spanish and Jazz' because I'm Spanish and obsessed with Jazz, duh.
Ive been waiting for a recording of Late Nite Television since I first heard it before the E.P. release way back when. I cant wait! It's finally here!
fruit tea! for sure! stays in my head for days on end <3 <3 <3
"Spanish and Jazz" for me as well. Every listen leaves it stuck in my head for hours. I was an instant fan the first time I saw them, which was when they opened for Tilly & The Wall. Along with Young Mammals, Wild Moccasins is one of Houston's best kept secrets. Here's hoping "Skin Collision Past" launches them into the national spotlight. I've heard them played on Sirius XMU's blog radio on a few occasions...now to get them in the regular rotation!
Fruit Tea has won my heart the moment I heard it. Definitely a favorite! Sadly, the last time I seen them perform was, if I recall, a benefit show in La Porte. That was over two years ago! I hope to win.
My fave's definitely Fruit Tea, but it's hard to pick only one! I love the mix of male and female vocals on that song.
I was first introduces to the Wild Moccasins with the song "My Favorites Die." I fell in love with them and have been a fan ever since. I can't wait until Friday!
zzzzzzz! has to be the best track on microscopic metronomes.. but i also love mailman!! and fruit tea.. and my favorites die.. you know what?.. they are all good..
Shiny Strings is my favorite, lyrics are great and cute :)
The wild moccasins are so good, I have been waiting for a band like this to come out of Houston!
I think Shiny Strings is their best song off the first album. I do think all of them are great, but this song shows off Codys talents a little more. The tune is catchy and melodic, the lyrics are simple yet stunning. This song makes me want to cuddle with someone and get warm and forget about inanimate objects altogether, just to soak up the moment. I have been a fan of the wild moccasins for quite some time and this new album has kept me on my toes in excitment! c:
I REALLY wish I could dig this band(there's nothing I hate about them)..But, to me the music is SO PAINFULLY middle of the road.(got a bootleg weeks ago, the songs kind of run together, the mix could have done better. I kind of wish they recorded this in their garage, by themselves.)..BUT anyway, I bet they could get a song on the "One Tree Hill" sound track 4 sure!
best wishes and please, PLEASE dont become the next BLUE OCTOBER!!!
I'm really lovin' on Zylophone from the new album right now. :)
My favorite song is Late Night Television! I loove the percussion and the lyrics. The whole song is just amazing.
shiny strongs! good song
i mean strings. typo
The Wild Moccasins sound like the Grace Slick and Paul Kantner of long ago, brings back great memories. Fruit Tea is the best.
Fruit tea is the ultimate song! Their music is like an anthem to my life. I've loved the wild moccasins from the start and that they are from Houston makes me so proud 8] I have NEVER seen them live and am looking forward to their show on Friday.
Late Night Television. so great love their music. it will be an honor to go.The whole song is just amazing. plus never been to Walter's so it will be so cool to go
Love the entire Microscopic Metronomes EP, but "My Favorites Die" has that super Weezer simplicity that makes it so enjoyable. Listen to this song and try not to hum along "Da da dum da da dum dum". Really eager to hear this full length. And that show is going to be PACKED!
Literally had to take their EP out of my car after a solid week of listening to it and hide it from myself. It was that good.
AWESOME
rockers pop,good stuff
Im a new FAN but Im def love what Im hearing. Been checking out the myspace grooving to the music. Great to see a hot band here in Houston! I would love to be at the show and introduce myFriend to their music...
Fave song so far is 'Fruit Tea" cuz its takes me on a journey. Jam session with the wonderful ad libs.. Im ready to hear the album in full. :-)
Cake or Fruit Tea.
I remember the first time seeing these guys at last years Summer Fest, I had heard a lot about them and just hadnt gotten the chance to see them yet. Long story short Zahira comes out wearing these long laced up gladiator sandals and a frilly lavender dress and I was pretty much sold.
Wild Moccasins are the epitome of what the Houston music scene’s main direction is heading in and on their title track Skin Collision Past they have accomplished what every band in Houston aspires to do, sound anything but a band that comes from Houston. The drums are there but not blaring but not blending in the background they are interwoven with Zahira’s lovely honey dewed voice and Cody’s ambient voice. I could just tune up any Wild Moccasins song in my car and feel like the world is still for a moment but Skin Collision Past motivates me to live life to the fullest, even if that wasn’t their main object for the song.
Yawny. I fall into a nice sleep every time I hear it. Zzzzzzzz
I feel like the Wild Moccasins songs are the soundtrack of my life. My first time at Avant Garden, my husband's 21st birthday, fabulous road trips to Austin, cruisin' the California coast, and most recently the birth of my daughter. Yes, I love the music so much that I recently put Spanish & Jazz on my birthing mix. It is just mellow enough to be soothing, but has enough spunk to be pure Wild Moccasins. Love it!
I love the song My Favorites Die, it's so catchy and just makes my day! I can't wait to introduce my frens to their music this Friday. The wild moccasins have broaden my interest artistically and I hope they continue the good work.
Oops...didn't log in the first time!

Thanks for all of your entries! The winners, chosen at random, are thatsuperstar, Pistol Pete and Edna. I'll be in touch. We hope to see the rest of you at the CD release show Friday night!
Yeah, they're probably the most over rated band in Houston.
Wild Moccasins are one of the few Houston bands worth going to see. They are young, energetic and write good songs. Their shows are fun to attend. They actually perform. As opposed to expecting the audience to enjoy being in their presence.
If FPH had any snap, Wild Moccasins would be headlining their upcoming festival. What other bands appeals to multiple genres?
BunB? Give me a break.
Frankly, I don't hear anything original or creative from this band. They may get a lot of press but that doesn't mean their good. They got the emo hipster crowd behind them which makes them "popular" trust me I would listen to bun b over these guys any day. This is not a knock against them. Just think their other local acts much more creative
First of all, its hard to take stock in something with grammatical errors. Second, yes, there are other local acts that are not given as much press but I don't think that discounts the talent that wm displays. If you don't like em, cool, that's your thing but own it don't knock em and say you're not.
They're not my favorite local band but they're definitely a smart band that knows how to get noticed and take the right steps to get where they want to be, more than can be said for the majority of local acts.
