Wild Moccasins tour diary: Thoughts on Dairy Queen

    Sent Friday night:

Day one has started off very well! The van is not nearly as hot as I had imagined it to be, in fact it was a really pleasant drive all the way to Lafayette, a town we really know little about. Last time we played here we tried to hunt down some really awesome Cajun food but found ourselves at a Louisiana version of Luby's. I had what was called the "Cajun catfish" with a side of mashed potatoes. I would not recommend it. Andrew Lee and I also drove around aimlessly looking for the "hot spots" but instead found a drive-thru daiquiri place. The drinks were cheap but it's hard to imagine why anyone would really promote drinking and driving so blatantly.

This time around has been different in several key ways:

    1) We all rode in the same vehicle, which has never ever happened in the history of the Wild Moccasins.

    2) We let Andrew Lee control the music for the majority of the trip and it went surprisingly very well.

    3) We played for more than five people, including the members of the other bands!

On the way up here we ate at Dairy Queen and we all agreed that the marketing team behind the chain is terrible. Is there a reason why this place thrives in small towns? I had a classic cheeseburger with fries and it was mediocre. Andrew Lee had the popcorn shrimp which came with a side of cole slaw for some reason. Remember that scene in Demolition Man where Stallone is frozen for years and thawed out only to find out that only Taco Bell survived the Fast Food wars?

We are now here at Artmosphere, Lafayette's version of the Spider House in Austin or kind of like a friendly version of Agora. Can you believe we are getting a free pizza here? Not just that, but free drinks as well! I had a Red Stripe because it was the only beer I could think of that was not a Lone Star and I panicked when the bartender asked me what I would be having. My knowledge of alcohol-related products is very, very poor. I was unaware it came from Jamaica, but it explains why all those kids in high school who would listen to dub would drink it.

Anyway, the place is nice. Air conditioned, Internet accessible and full of comfortable couches. We are still at a loss for a place to stay, but don't tell my parents. They think we have it all settled out.

Apparently at tomorrow's show in Mobile there will be a wet t-shirt contest along with a costume contest. We have also heard that if you go dressed up as any character from the Peter Pan cartoon you get in at a discounted price. Our goal is to get Andrew Lee drunk enough to enter one of these contests.
