The Free Press Summerfest is a month away. Ever since its announcement, excitement has been building over this two-day festival featuring headliners Of Montreal, What Made Milwaukee Famous, Broken Social Scene, Explosions in the Sky, the Octopus Project, among others. To wit:
Breakfast on Tour calls it "an event that just might help put Houston on the musical map."
Pitchfork calls it a "pretty good deal!" which isn't the highest compliment, but a small mention in Pitchfork can't hurt.
Under the Radar says "this might just be one of those shows worth braving the heat for."
"Holy fuck, does it look awesome," muses Space City Rock.
Nothing trumps someone on Craigslist looking for a carpool from Berkeley to Houston for the show. That's excitement.
Now the only hurdle is actually getting people there. Not just the Mango's regulars, not just the same folks that attend Free Press' Block Party. We need to spread the word to thousands of people to fill Eleanor Tinsley park the way Clay Walker can. For a festival like this to succeed, it can't be another Texas Heat Festival -- good intentions, but little word of mouth.
We will do our part by giving away a ton of tickets. Here's how we'll do it: the commenter behind the best comment (in our opinion) on any story on 29-95.com each day will win a pair of tickets daily between today, July 7, and July 28. On Fridays during those weeks, we'll be giving away a pair of VIP passes.
Now, go forth and spread the word to your friends about the festival. Let's make this thing a success.
Noon-10 p.m. August 8 and 9. Eleanor Tinsley Park. Tickets are available at freepresssummerfest.com: $10 for a one-day pass; $16 for two days; $45 VIP pass; $100 super-VIP pass (it includes sushi. I kid you not.)
Can we bring our own beer?
You can't bring pets, weapons or booze. Or tacos.
I wanna go!!!!
Do they realize that the sushi is going to cook the moment it hits the houston air?
(That's a pretty good comment, i might add. It's clever, pertinent to the article, and is snarky without being uppity or vulgar!)
Wow sounds great! I will make sure to spread the news of this event to everybody I know. Yes sushi in this temperature would not last very long. I'll make sure to eat it all before it goes bad.
I saw the article in Pitchfork! That's how I heard about the Fest. I also think it's great you guys are giving out free tickets, but it really isn't that big a damage to the wallet for 10$ to see some of the best line-up in history of ever. I have some friends coming all the way from Germany for the festival guys!!!! It's going to be good. Totally worth braving the heat for!
Shalom
