This is contemporary interior Mexican food based on rarefied homestyle recipes, and the pricing goes way beyond your basic Tex-Mex. Tabs for the botanas, brunch items and cocktails seem well worth it .

Brunch is a good opportunity for first-timers to investigate Cuchara, not only because of the gentler pricing but because the room is particularly lovely by day, when light streams in through the two window walls topped by a clerestory, which brings the room’s height to a generous one-and-a-half stories.

See what else Cuchara has to offer and why reviewer calls it one of the best in the city. .

you have got to be joking! We live up the street from this place and were pumped to try it only to be disappointed multiple times. I love food and especially new places, but this one missed on multiple fronts and won’t last long. Overpriced mediocre food with a sub-par staff and parking = stay away from this place. If you want good food in the area, try Boheme’s new food menu, it makes cuchara seem like a glorified port-o-potty

It's funny that you, Mr. Nacho07, find "mediocre" what the rest of the people, including the top restaurant's critics, find AMAZING, AUTHENTIC, DELICIOUS and ORIGINAL.

I personally love this place, it brightness the area with it's beautiful and chic art and architecture, delicious food and great atmosphere. Instead of competing with Boheme and other places around, like you think, it complements very well the neighborhood restaurants.

i disagree with Nacho. we too live down the street and absolutely love it. i'm told there were some growing pains, but we first visited at the end of October and everything seemed to be corrected. pricey, but very good.

Allison, really?

You've really been to Mexico City and checked out where Diego and Freida lived?

You really know that Diego and Freida were both serial philanderers?

That Freida was crippled as a child in a bus accident?

That Freida was ugly as home made soap?

You know ALL that?!?

I might call her a great artist, but I wouldn't call her elegant.

OTOH, you might want to ask Leon Trotsky, one of her lovers, he might have a different idea about it......

heh, I know all of that. and your point is.......???????

In general I agree with the previous comment that the food is less that spectacular, but the prices suggest otherwise. If they continue with the current cooking and prices, I also agree, it won't last long. His plug for Boheme is way off base, however. They suffer from what I refer to as "upscale envy." They've recently revamped their menu from "toaster oven" to "full size oven", but the taste hasn't changed. Their prices have however; they want to be seen as "upscale" now. Note the recent addition of valet parking and no inexpensive beers. Try the Fairview next door. Much friendlier, and cheaper to boot.

Another douche hangout parading as authentic Mexican food. Any real Mexican can tell the difference. You're not fooling anyone when there's a Taqueria on nearly every corner in Houston. $8.00 for chips and salsa is outrageous, but there's a sucker out there that will pay for it.

After seen the pictures and reviewing their menu and prices, I don't think is worth going. Some things look real mexican (and I know because I was born there!) but there are other real mexican restaurants that cook fantastic food and are not as expensive as Cuchara. I hope they reconsider their pricing strategy. A restaurant is not upscale because it is expensive but for the quality of its food. Without visiting the restaurant but based on the pictures, it is ridiculous that they charge that much for very cheap-to-make food. Mexico has many styles of cuisine and this restaurant does not represent the upscale, more complex, flavor-intense culinary style the country has to offer.
