It's teens and zombies at Landmark River Oaks this Friday: File
Welcome back to the weekly movie roundup, where I bring the goods from other blogs to this blog to you!
If you’re looking to fill that endless chasm of sadness now that the 29-95 and Movies! The Store [1] run of midnight movies [2] is nearing a close, check out Night of the Creeps [3] this Friday and Saturday at midnight at the River Oaks [4]. Alien brain parasites and zombies, y’all!
Dude flick Dinner for Schmucks is looking to get a little dude-ier [5] with The Hangover [6] star Zach Galifianakis in talks to join Steve Carell and Paul Rudd in Jay Roach’s bromedy. I hope this means Zach G will get a little street cred back after G-Force [7].
Marvel’s taking a page out of DC’s (comic) book with the motion comic Spider-Woman, Agent of S.W.O.R.D. [8], available on iTunes. You can check out the trailer here. This will probably
New motion comic: Marvel be quite cool, but I can already tell you, it’s no [9]Wonder Woman [10].
My gag reflex has been sorely tested with this news: Disney and Robert Zemeckis are planning to remake a 3D version [11] of Yellow Submarine for the big screen, because anything made whimsical and trippy can always be re-made cheesy and bland. Oh, and to further depress/horrify you: Zemeckis will use the same performance capture technology he used to turn beloved actors Tom Hanks [12]and Jim Carrey [13]into terrifying flesh-colored robots. Beatles fans: revolt!
Woah, this movie sounds kind of amazing. William Shatner stars as a playboy who keeps killing off his lady friends and dresses like a blaxploitation lead in the 1974 “psychological thriller” Impulse, showing for FREE this Thursday [14] at the Alamo Drafthouse’s Cult Thursdays. Aww, Shat, you really know how to make ‘em, don’t you?
The trailer is out: 20th Century FoxAfter years of teasing fanpersons with snippets of ambiguous, vaguely titillating information, James Cameron finally released the Avatar trailer [15], which is…ambiguous and vaguely titillating. Also he’s shilling Panasonic 3D televisions [16], which is just great, Jimmy, except are you planning to buy me one? My beautiful flat-screen HDTV is only 2 years old, but sure, whatever, make it obsolete.
Inglourious Basterds is kicking ass and taking Nazi scalps at the box office [17], and District 9 is certainly still holding its own. I make no attempt to disguise my glee in telling you that Robert Blahdriguez’s abysmal-looking Shorts [18] isn’t doing so hot.
Casting’s beefing up [19] for John Carter of Mars, starring the eye-meltingly hot Taylor Kitsch [20] and a bunch of other people [21] who aren’t Taylor Kitsch. Oh yeah, and Willem Dafoe. Frankly, this movie could be called Taylor Kitsch Stands in an Empty Room for Two Hours and co-star Carrot Top and Andie MacDowell and I’d still watch it.
The new teaser for Christopher Nolan’s Inception is up [22], and it gives us absolutely no information whatsoever, but a hell of a lot of awesomeness. I WANT TO GO TO THERE.
I guess Bryan Singer is done with the whole original idea thing? After the way-too-soon Battlestar Galactica retread, he’s looking to remake [23] the outrageously weird 1981 Excalibur [24]. I think Valkyrie [25] broke him, you guys.
Happy scooping, and as always, drop me a line at maborders@gmail.com [26]if you have any news I can use!
