Guess who is back?: File
Daybreakers - Jan. 8
Have I mentioned that THIS LOOKS AWESOME? I was always a bit apathetic about vampires. But finally a movie that redeems the name of the emasculated vampire - switching them back from the wimpy, effete, moon-eyed Twilight vampires to the badass, evil-souled, powerful, kick-ass-and-take-names bloodsuckers they were supposed to be. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it, Kristen Stewart.
A Nightmare on Elm Street - April 30
I'm naturally skeptical of any remake of an '80s horror flick that was pretty much perfect. But the trailer is appealing. Jackie Earl Haley's Freddy Kreuger seems to be more serious and lacks the sick sense of humor of Robert Englund's Freddy.
Alice in Wonderland - March 5
Crazy Johnny Depp (who is a much different person than hot Johnny Depp) is the cool reason to see this. Well, that and anything Tim Burton touches is visually stunning. I'm hopeful that this will be the film that will make me find Anne Hathaway less irritating.
Iron Man 2 - May 7
Two Comeback Kids in one film - Robert Downey Jr. (of prison fame) and Mickey Rourke (of shitty movie fame). Plus the always delightful Sam Rockwell. And though I'm unsure about the casting of Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, she looks sexy in the suit, which is probably the reason she was cast.
Green Zone - March 12
We just have to trust that Paul Greengrass, who brought us the surprisingly thrilling Jason Bourne movies, knows what he is doing. There are only so many Iraq war movies you can have before you suffer Operation Sick-of-Guns-and-Khaki. But Greengrass, along with favorite whipping boy Matt Damon, may have a winner here.
The Wolfman - Feb. 12
Benecio del Toro, while an incredible actor, already looks a bit wolfish so he's a natural to play the title character. Hugo Weaving, Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt round out the cast of amazing actors in what probably will be a pretty extraordinary film, judging by this trailer.
Other films to look forward to in the new year:
The Social Network [1] - Oct. 15
Shrek Forever After [2] - May 21
Toy Story 3 [3] - June 18
The A-Team [4] - June 11
Clash of the Titans [5] - March 26
Sex & The City 2 [6] - May 28
