Big Bite Nite and other Houston-area restaurant news

Some of the city’s best restaurants and food trucks will be taking part in Big Bite Nite, 6-9 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, 5555 Hermann Park Drive.
A number of restaurants, including Ristorante Cavour [1], Sorrel Urban Bistro [2], TQLA [3] and Le Mistral [4], will offer small bites to participants strolling through the museum’s exhibits, including the new Hall of Paleontology.

NOW OPEN
Mellow Mushroom [5] has opened just around the corner from Elizabeth Kaiser Meyer Park in Spring. It’s the first Houston-area store for the Georgia-based chain of franchise pizza kitchens. The restaurants offer a large selection of pizzas, calzones and hoagies, as well a good line of craft beers and a full bar.
Mellow Mushroom is open 11 a.m.-midnight daily.

BURGRS & BREWS
Are you a fan of craft brews and burgers? Check out the Backyard Burger Grill-off from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Discovery Green. Among restaurants offering burger samples will be the Counter, Vic & Anthony’s, Roots Bistro and the Tasting Room. COOKING CLASSES AT QUATTRO
Quattro [6] executive chef Maurizio Ferrarese is offering private cooking classes that can accommodate from two to 16 amateur cooks. Participants can learn to make dishes such as pizza and ravioli in the two-hour classes. In addition to the main course, participants will be served a salad, dessert and glass of wine with their class meal. Costs range from $95-$140 per person, depending on the number of participants and the main dish. FAMILY NIGHT AT MEZZANOTTE
Mondays are family nights at the Mezzanotte [7] in Cypress. If everyone at the table checks their phone with the server (phones will be kept secure in a back office), the table’s check (food and liquor) will be discounted 20 percent. While the restaurant is offering this discount to promote family dining, even parties of one can take advantage of the deal.
