Love, love, love this take on the icehouse. There's some seriously kick-ass meats -- smoked brisket, pork ribs and buffalo meatloaf -- and plenty of non-carnivore options such as a vegan black bean chili and a creamy tomato-topped mac and cheese. Behind the bar are some of the city's top mixologists concocting cocktails with a chef's eye for flavor. Take, for example, the Forecast, a combo of habanero-infused vodka, cucumber, kaffir lime and lemon. Beaver's also serves more than 75 beers. And that's our only whine: When we order Shiner Bock, barkeep, please refrain from rolling your eyes.
Vibe Can't think of a better way to spend an afternoon than sitting on Beaver's patio, sipping a cold beer and eating Seafood Campechana.

I used to live around the corner and ate there a few times. I am not a big fan and I think it's over rated.
I thought the menu was a little too hip, but my meal of beef shoulder and cheese grits was pretty tasty although the grits could have used some more seasoning. The other diners in my party were please with their shrimp and grits and tacos. The Beaver Balls for dessert were awesome.
As for the drinks, their mojito was way too limey and bore little resemblance to any mojito I have ever had. The Southside, a gin take on a Mojito was similar. The Beaver Mary was pretty good. What really put me off was the 20 miute wait per round of drinks, inexcusable. Maybe if they had a bartender instead of a "mixologist," they'd serve better drinks in a more timely fashion.
All in all, though, a good experience but with the wide range of eating/drinking choices available in Houston, I probably won't go back.
Well I finally got over to Beaver's on a cool Friday night and ordered a wedge salad and then some macaroni and cheese. Probably would have progressed to an entree but the wedge salad lettuce was room temperature (I like it cold or at least chilled) served with a fried egg (thats just weird) and the mac-a-runny and cheese was a separated disaster with dry over-melted cheese on top of plain macaroni swimming in a soup of white liquid on the bottom. Didn't seem to be any customer in the packed house who was over age 30 which I guess proves that kids will eat anything. I won't be back.

I went on a week night and for the price I will never go again. For 2 of us to split an appetizer, 2 beers and 2 entrees it was close to 70.00 with tip and JUST OK. My date had a shredded chicken sandwich that was buried under coleslaw that she only ate 1/4 of. I had a burger that was ok but with came with a huge slice of pickled carrot and cauliflower (??).The chips that came with the appetizer were bland and not crisp in any way ... no thanks.
Two hours. Our just-OK meal here of essentially picnic food took two hours to complete. And not because we were trying to stretch it out or anything. Food was slow, service was slower. One of my cocktails took 20 minutes to get to me. I think after multiple frustrating visits, I'm going to have to stop trying to understand what the big deal is.
This place is good. The drinks to me were awesome, a little too pricey, but delicious. They make their own whisky and it is great! I had a chicken salad and I don’t know that they use good quality chicken. But that’s what I get for ordering the grilled chicken salad at a BBQ place. I am an advocate for using good meat. I am not sure they think that way. I could be wrong so I will try it again, but next time I will get the pork sandwich.
Brunch was out of this world.
I love a place that has a playful twist on a dish. From the standard Campeche (good but not OH MY GOSH!) to the bacon fritatta (Oh My Gosh) to the SPam-WOW! (OUT OF THIS BLOODY WORLD) all dishes were fun and delectable. House smoked spam.... I may be in love. Bacon ice cream? You just won my heart. Amuse me and feed my need for cochon? Another please.....
Who knew spam could be so fun and flavorful! I was fortunate enough to sample several dishes in addition and all were stellar. Nothing I like better than to sit down and be able to read a menu with innovative delight!
This wasn't as awesome I was led to believe. The BBQ was ok. I've had much better and much worse. It certainly wasn't worth what they were charging. I do like that they offer a great cocktail menu. Unique drinks and interesting flavors. I ordered the Train Wreck, which turned out extremely flat tasting. I was expecting some depth but it tasted like an average Sidecar at best. I suspect that the bartender forgot an ingredient. Beaver's gets one more chance then it will be dead to me.
The drinks are a little expensive but totally worth it. IMO, get the scotch with the SMOKED ICE. yes for real.
or get the thing with the habanero pepper vodka. that's real good too.
