This Houston-based chain sets the standard for fish tacos in town. The original fish taco is simple tempura fried fish, cabbage, cilantro and sauce on a corn tortilla -- and so good. Taco variations, enchiladas and renown tamales comprise the rest of the menu at this relaxed, counter-service restaurant and bar.
Vibe: Thoroughly casual.
Happy Hour Specials: Hours vary.
When you go just enjoy the great food and wonderful drinks and leave the 2oz measuring cup at home.
white people problems
WTF is that supposed to mean?
Say what???
Sounds like a problem at this location only. The fish tacos at the one in the Heights are very generous and wonderful. The tamales are the best. The queso is fabulous. I've never sent anything back or been disappointed. Give them some time to iron out the problems at League City. The Heights Berryhill is larger than many of them and has a great patio. Try them out if you want to see what is truly great about Berryhill. They have a full bar also.
My wife and i just ate at the new location in League City. It was our second experience at Berry Hill Baja Grill and we had hoped that this one would be better than the first since this location is very close to our home.
We ordered a grilled fish taco, a regular fish taco, beef enchilada, pork tamale, black beans and rice as a samper of what we could expect.
The grilled fish taco had very little fish on it at all. My wife opened up the corn tortillas to show me the fish, and I was appalled at how little fish it actually contained. We sent it back as it had only an ounce, literally. The amount of fish wouldnt fit in a 2 oz measuring cup. It came back, only slightly better but warmer. The regular fish taco was better, but not up the the 3 piece taco that you show in your on line advertisement. It contained two pieces, not three. The fish was could have been cooked slightly longer as the breading under the crust was underdone.
I can only guess what was in the beef enchilada, it appeared to be chicken, but the taste was hard to determine. Even my wife had a hard time figuring out what it was.
The tamale was the best of the worst. It was falling apart but the flavor was good and well seasoned.
The rice was dry, probably on the stove uncovered too long.
Black Bean were good, but not very hot.
Overall, not a good experience at all in the food department. Granted that the restaurant was on its second day, having opened for business the day before.
We wisht the restaurant well, but given our first and second impressions, I'm not sure we will recommend this restaurant.
I would like to add another comment about the layout of the store. The ordering section is right in line with the traffic from the bar to the restrooms, causing congestion where there doenst need to be one. Not sure how to fix this, but its one that someone should have thought through before putting in walls, etc.
I wish you luck. I know you have been successful, but some tweaking might be in order in this challenged retail market.
"We sent it back as it had only an ounce, literally. The amount of fish wouldnt fit in a 2 oz measuring cup. "
2oz of fish by weight isn't equal to 2oz of fish by volume........
I have eaten here quite a bit for the fish tacos. Saturdays at the Memorial City Mall location they offer 2 fish tacos and a margarita (frozen or on the rocks) for only $7.00.
I usually order a fried and a grilled. I love the spicy sauce, fresh and green leaf lettuce and cabbage all packed into a soft flour tortilla with the fish.
The margarita on the rocks with a salt rimmed glass is good too and it usually leaves me feeling light headed afterwards so NO, they dont skimp on the tequila!
