Those culinary wunderkinds who gave us Reef, Bill Floyd and Bryan Caswell, have spun off their much ballyhooed baby burgers into Little Bigs.
The menu is spare: 3 oz. sliders (beef, chicken or veg-friendly are served three to an order), hand-cut french fries and shakes. Oh, yea, terrific beers and wines by the glass.
Alison Cook says: Artisanal sliders and fries from top chef Bryan Caswell, of Reef fame, are the draw at this Montrose hotspot. Lounge on the big, inviting deck with your house-ground baby burger trimmed with caramelized onion, bread-and-butter jalapenos and Sriracha remoulade. Shakes, beer, and well-chosen, inexpensive wines by the bottle or glass invite lingering.
I'm surprised by a lot of the reviews - maybe I'm not enough of a burger connoisseur to agree with them, but I found the burgers to not be at all overrated. My wife figured out what seems to give the burgers the distinct, intense, and extremely enjoyable flavor: The grilled onions. Try a bite without and enjoy the rest of the burger with onion, there's a difference.
I had a butterscotch shake and my kid had a vanilla, which surprisingly was more flavorful - not necessarily better mind you - than mine. Both shakes were really good.
A single order of fries is enough for two people. I hate to sound redundant, but I'm no professional reviewer: they were great too.
I miss White Castle!
If this is the one of the best Houston has to offer then we are in trouble. The one time I went they recommended a sriracha sauce for the fries. I asked why it had the consistency of water and the cashier said that's normal. I'd prefer to dip my fries in something that is thicker.
Little bigs screams of over-rated before you eat there. Hype is too big for it to be what everyone says. Burgers fell flat and the fries where decent at best. Mine were soggy while my brothers tasted ok. Only true quality item was the Dude that my friends is what kids call, "the bee's knees."
Been twice; good but not overly impressed. Crowded inside and hot outside.
thats amazing how much press this place gets and its exactly what everyone says, "burger hmmmmm ok, fries hmmmmmmm ok ( the burger was nothing to talk about, and the fries hmmmmm REALLY, not even had cut and soggy, guess its good to be a local celeb. chef", so whats all the hype, is it really that good? SERIOUSLY!!!!!!
I went there once with others, who loved the food, but I would not order anything. After their meals they all asked why I did not order anything and I told them. They said that they agreed that, cooks munching down fried chicken (that was finger licking good) while they were cooking burgers, it was disgusting. But, never the less they all still eat there. I don’t.
I ordered 3 sliders here because I had heard about how good they were. The burger itself was a bit gray in color and dry.I was not too impressed with the flavor. The bun tasted as if it was homemade, a nice buttery flavor. The condiment bar is a nice touch with onions, ketchup, mustard, mayo, onions, pickles and the like at your disposal.
wasn't really impressed by Lil Bigs. The sliders were ok...
They're staff is very courteous and helpful.
I would argue that these aren't a true slider, but I didn't care they are super tasty. One slider and a shared basket of fries was a nice running errands snack. Also bravo for having Arnold Palmer's on the menu.
