I had a girls night at Shade in the Heights last night and the experience reconfirmed that customer service is a dying art. Bottom line, the food was mediocre at best and while we were waiting for our check a rat ran across one of the ceiling beams! We weren't the only ones that saw it and the staff's bad attitude was as if we were the inconvenience. The manager only took two drinks off each of... our tabs, but we paid it because we just wanted to get the hell out of there before we lost our subpar dinner all over the floor. The night started with us waiting for 20 minutes for a waitress to take our drink order then the waitress smelled all of our glasses of wine, nose in rim, to make sure she was giving us the correct one and one of us had lip stick on our glass. It pretty much went downhill from there. All of these incidents alone are not deal breakers, less the rat, and if we had enjoyed the food and it was worth the price then we would have let a lot slide, but combined it made for one of my worst restaurant experiences in Houston. I am sympathetic to the fact that the restaurant is located in a strip center so the rats may not be their fault, but the way we were addressed after the incident was unacceptable.
SWANK it up! OMG I can't believe how EXCELLENT this place is.
The service is fine, the chef is on the ball & makes the BEST food that
I've had in a really, really long time. Try the bowl of mussels as a starter and
then the crisp shrimp with yumsy buttery cheese grits & bacon.
