There's no denying it; the downtown Spec's liquor warehouse is spectacular. But forgetting the booze (try, ok?), Spec's also has a deli tucked into the back of this enormous store. The deli serves just about everything a deli should (nearly 20 different sandwiches), as well as burgers, pizzas, baked potatoes and Frito pie. They even serve breakfast until 11 a.m. We find that a little depressing. Imagine the conversation: "You know where I'd like to have some pancakes? Spec's.'' The surroundings aren't conducive to a relaxed meal -- you eat at the front of the store near frantic cash registers or at a few tables outside under the sun -- but when you're picking up wine for tonight's party, it's pretty convenient to sit down for a quick lunch here.
As far as the libations are concerned, it's the go-to place for the most unusual finds in Houston.
Vibe: It's a grocery store inside a liquor store. There is no vibe.
