There’s no sign outside Reginelli’s Pizzeria yet. But that didn’t stop friends and neighbors Monday night from finding their way to Kingsride Lane and find the proper storefront for the soft opening of the a new casual pizza restaurant partnered by siblings Ti Adelaide Martin and Alex Brennan-Martin of Commander’s Palace in New Orleans and Brennan’s of Houston.
Still, without a sign it would be hard to miss the packed restaurant with groups of eager diners waiting outside for a table to open. Reginelli’s, which opens today, is a new venture with the Martins and the New Orleans-based pizza chain owned by Darryl Reginelli and his partner Bruce Erhardt. The Commander’s Palace owners have been so impressed with the Reginelli’s concept, which has multiple stores in New Orleans as well as Baton Rouge, that they became partners for Reginelli’s first expansion outside of Louisiana.
Ti Adelaide Martin, who has been in Houston to oversee the opening, said the partners already are looking for other locations in Houston for more Reginelli’s stores. The Houston Reginelli’s has the same menu as its Louisiana sisters – a variety of hand-tossed pizza, fresh salads, baked pastas, focaccia sandwiches and appetizers. It’s a model that works so they weren’t going to mess with it, she said.
The pizza, Alex Brennan-Martin said, strikes a good balance in the suddenly competitive pizza market in Houston: “It’s not overly sauced, not overly cheesed,” he said describing the crust as not too thick or too thin.
“Pizza is like gumbo: everyone thinks their version is the best,” he said. “What I like about what we’re doing here is the pizza. People in New Orleans love it.”
And the partners are hoping Houstonians take to it, too. In fact, they’re banking on it – they’re busy scouting new areas to plop down more Reginelli’s.
“At the end of the day what they are are little neighborhood pizza joints,” Brennan-Martin said. “We’ll see how Houston likes it.”
The price points for pizza range from a small cheese for $7.25 to $16.75 for large specialty pies. Hours are 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m.-midnight Friday and Saturday.
