A fire has temporarily closed one of Pearland’s favorite restaurants.

The front pit at Central Texas Style Bar-B-Q ignited sometime after closing Tuesday evening. Luckily for owner Ruth LeClere, the fire was limited to the pit area and the Pearland Fire Department responded quickly.

LeClere and her family arrived early Wednesday working to get the restaurant open this week. LeClere said the restaurant may reopen Thursday or at the latest on Friday.

“We’re super lucky,” LeClere said. “The fire department responded so quickly. It went our way.”

LeClere said the pit that caught fire had been used by the family for 43 years. When it reopens, they will use a secondary pit in back of the restaurant.

“I just need to get open,” she said. “I’ve got families that need to work.”

Glad no one was hurt and looks like will be able to reopen quickly. Pretty good stuff, used to eat there every now and then when lived in the area.

Glad it went Central's way. Great people with great food in that establishment.
Used to work for City of Pearland and ate their all the time. Central even catered our Thanksgiving meal and it was fab!!! Plan to help them reopen by standing in line for their great food, service, and wonderful family atmosphere! The banana pudding is great too!!!

This has nothing to do with the barbecue fire, but I can't find any other place to post a comment. Why does 2995 only have two pages of Dine and Drink in the print edition today? Where is Allison Cook? I look forward to the restaurant reviews every week and I expect them. This is outrageous.

Alison's reviews have moved to Wednesday's Flavor section, part of a revamping of that section to all things food, not just cooking. As part of that section, Alison's review have moved behind the Chronicle paywall.

Skeets BBQ off Broadway next to the Randalls is the Best Pearland has in bbq.......They even serve whole roasted corn on the cobb!!!!

best? if by best you mean worst then yes, Skeet's is the "best"

    rude staff, mediocre food.

i'll be anxiously awaiting Central Texas BBQs return!

Skeets BBQ is good--the $.99 draft beer Mon-Fri makes it even better!

I hope they get up and "running" soon. As for the food, have eaten here about five times. Don't think the "Q" is anything to write home about. The pulled pork was dry and I don't believe it was cooked the same day I ate it and the ribs weren't easily pulled off the bone. The brisket is dry if you order the lean end and for God's sake, who eats green olives in potato salad? Most of us prefer onion and celery- Don't like green olives. The banana pudding is made with instant pudding mix. I wish this family well but geesh, the food is not that great.
