Downtowners and locavores rejoice: The City Hall Farmers Market reopens to the public Wednesday, Sept. 12 with 35 vendors, including food trucks and the continuation of Chef’s Corner, where local chefs will conduct food demonstrations.
New to the farmers market this year will be Pondicheri (Indian-inspired sandwiches, samosas and cookies), Renaissance Chicken (free-range chicken and quail eggs), Texas Juice Girl (bottled juices), Texas T Kobe Beef (grass-fed, Japanese-style kobe), and Zierau Fine Foods (catfish tacos, seasoning blends and rubs).
The Chef’s Corner for Sept 12 will be chef Claire Smith and sous chef Kent Domas from Shade and Canopy preparing chilled soup with roasted corn relish. Live music will be provided by Chris Crump & Band.
The City Hall Farmers Market, set up on both sides of City Hall’s reflection pool, will be open through the holidays on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Downtown workers and dwellers are encouraged to walk to the market. For those driving, metered street parking is available or garage parking at Tranquility Park, 400 Rusk, or Hobby Center, 800 Bagby. For more information, see Urban Harvest, which runs the city’s farmers markets.
