Three Houston restaurants – Coppa Ristorante Italiano, Pondicheri and Philippe Restaurant + Lounge – are included in Texas Monthly’s new feature of the Ten Best New Restaurants in Texas by the magazine’s restaurant critic Pat Sharpe.
The story will appear in Texas Monthly’s March issue.
Sharpe’s list, in order:
1. Congress, Austin
2. Barley Swine, Austin
3. Marquee, Dallas
4. Coppa, Houston
5. Philippe, Houston
6. The Monterey, San Antonio
7. Contigo, Austin
8. Lucia, Dallas
9. Pondicheri, Houston
10. Shinjuku Station, Fort Worth
Congratulations to chef Brandi Key of Coppa, chef Philippe Schmit of Philippe and chef Anita Jaisinghani of Pondicheri.
Takuma Japanese Grill is a small family owned business in Spring. I have been coming here with my husband for the past three years. This restaurant is by far one of THE BEST restaurants in Houston. This place makes you feel as though you are eating somewhere in New York or California. Word needs to spread out about this place so that one day this restaurant too can be in this magazine. If you dont believe me, go check it out yourself:)
Texas Monthly credibility won't make any 10 Best list. or 20 or 30 . .
What were the criteria? All of those Houston restaurants are relatively new as I moved away less than 3 years ago and none of them existed at that time. I live in Dallas now and have eaten at some wonderful restaurants and have never heard of the only Dallas restaurant listed.
I think Cheryl needs to read the article a bit more closely. This is a top 10 of "new" restaurants, opened within the past twelve months? Also, there are two Dallas restaurants listed and not one. Hellooo? Anybody home?
Sheryl,
Take the time to read the article you would know the details, and the criterias.
Texas Monthly is notoriously biased toward central Texas (e.g. Austin). I'd take their lists with a grain of salt.
Contigo and the Monterey do not deserve to be on that list. Both are mediocre at best.
